Antonio de la Cruz: Maria, Op.95 No.3
Показать описание
Phillip Sear plays the third of '4 Mazurkas elegantes' from 1875 by the Spanish composer Antonio de la Cruz (1825-89).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Antonio de la Cruz was born and trained in Granada, and had a career as composer, and teacher of piano, voice and theory variously there, in Madrid, and in Almería. Although he wrote a zarzuela, he is best-known for his many songs and piano pieces, often published in mid-century Spanish musical journals. The four mazurkas in this set are all beautifully written, and not at all difficult. They were dedicated to the composer's friend Camilo Pozzi, and each piece has a girl's name as a title - maybe Pozzi's daughters?
My thumbnails for these mazurkas all feature unidentified girls from a row in a photo taken at a carnival in St. Sebastian in 1908.
