Vintage V100 set up Part 1

This video shows me assessing and starting the process of setting up a Vintage V100 destined for Kev (as a family present to him). It’s an early-model V100 so doesn’t have the Trev Wilkinson splashed everywhere and the online pundits would have you believe that it’s poorer as a result. I disagree; I’ve found these early models to be solid, well-made and great sounding. I think that story, like so many others, was born in a forum, became dogma and now lives on mostly unchallenged.

What amazed me with this guitar was that unlike just about every other guitar I’ve seen, it didn’t require fret leveling to get it to play at the ultra-low action I like and which RG is known for. Very rare – but knowing Vintage guitars generally, a sure sign that it’s been fret-levelled in the past. It’s what I’d called ‘nicely worn in’ with plenty of life left in the frets, looking great but not ridiculously shiny or new. Lovely heritage burst colour and (now) fading gold hardware.

Hi Sam, been watching you for some time now. You have taught me a lot and I am working on several guitars. Because of you mine, and several other folks guitars play much nicer! PLEASE keep up the great work. What is the polish you use in the video?

I was just thinking about how well the fish eye lens is working. Seems to give a great camera view of everything.

Sam what mm gauge are you using while measuring the string height on the first fret when cutting the nut slot? I assume it's the same across the board.

How were the electronics in that guitar. Didn't hear you say anything negative.

Thanks for another great video/

Hey Sam, what's your opinion of the Vintage Lemon Drop and the AFD current for a LP type guitar and some people seem to think these are better that an Epiphone ?

This is a very annoying guitar. Why? Because the name is almost Vantage V100 - which was Vantages first model ever, made in 1976. Trying to hunt down a Vantage V100 by googling is impossible, since one first has to wade through millions of Vintage V100's (and with "-vintage" in the searchbart, one risks missing a vintage Vantage V100 for sale).

I personally can't stand that fish eye lens. Am I the only one?
