I was once kicked out from a barn, because I didn’t want to hit the horses… the trainer shouted at me „Hit it hard! You will NEVER be a successful rider“… that was the moment when I realized, that I don’t want to be a „successful rider“ but a rider with a good relationship with her horse… I‘m happy that I‘m not there anymore…

Prince Harry needs to be called out for killing a pregnant mare he insisted on riding in a polo match. The mare died of a heart attack after the match. Harry also spurred a polo horse until the horse bled. A third horse unseated Harry off his back, I have seen horses do this when they don't like the rider.
If you train a horse with respect and understanding they will respect and understand you. Abusing any person or animal only makes for fear and resentment.

Wasn't the last Olympics that the German coach punched the horse. If they are willing to do it on camera at the Olympics can you imagine what happen when no one is watching.

Any equestrian who abuses their horse(s), ban them. Period.

Why are ppl defending Charlotte Dujardin!? "It happened 4 years ago" i dont a hot steaming sh💩t it happened 4 years ago. She is a professional rider, so she should know that a whip, especially the whip she used, (a lunging whip) is meant to GUIDE a horse, not HURT it. Its one of the first things i learned when i started long reining lessons.

To those people, winning is more important than their horses.

I actually know of a former pro dressage rider who 1 Was not from a wealthy background and was a mounted policeman and managed to become an Olympic champion. But he is a rarity 2 He is now retired but is still a a trainer 3 He used and advocates gentle training methods and founded an organisation for this purpose. I agree the good pro riders are very rare but why not change the rules and the judging so non violent training and harmonious riding are rewarded

When I finally managed to gather enough money to pay for my first riding lessons I was so disappointed to discover that most riders and trainers don't really love animals, they're just rich people who see horses as a very expensive hobby to show off. For them, it's mostly about dominance, power display and adrenaline, instead of actually focusing on developing a bond with their horses.

I just lost my OTTB mare last night after a life of pressure, pain, abuse and then neglect. I got her from a kill pen and got to love and care for her, giving her a life of peace and comfort with no expectations for three and a half months. The problem is these people see fame and dollar signs and not the beauty, grace and beautiful spirit that is the horse. After being pin-fired and having almost no soles left on her feet and stomach ulcers, then being passed through auctions and ending up at a slaughter lot, this amazing girl still had the capacity to love and trust me when she didn’t have to. Having and loving horses is an honor. Having them love you is the most precious gift. I volunteer at a donkey and equine rescue in Celina, Texas. I am disgusted by how these amazing animals are treated and thrown away. I know this. I am better because of every one of my horses. These people deserve public severe consequences. Their punishment, in my opinion, should be a life without horses or any animals. I also wouldn’t mind if they had to endure themselves what they put their horses through. Run free in Heaven my beautiful April.

This thing will just keep going on and the abuse will not stop if we don't do something about this.I signed the petition right away, this thing NEEDS TO STOP!

There are no excuses for abusing a horse or any animal 🤬

I really think that the abusers need to be punished as well the sponsors. Then fire the people who works in the FEI that are allowing it.

I'm 65 and watched the exposure of the soring of Tennessee Walking Horses 50 plus years ago. Research Big Lick Horses.
It's beyond sickening!

The Olympics and horse racing are FILLED with animal abusers. I am 75 and have been riding since I was 3. Idid show jumping, dressage and gaited horse shows. NOTHING has changed. These magnificent animals deserve so much more.

Here in the Czech Republic is The Grand Pardubice steeplechase, obstacle Taxis ditch. It is very dangerous, many horses died and were injured and euthanized there, when a few people complained about it and wanted to abolish it, others protested, they said it was a "tradition", that it was part of it...

To be perfectly honest, most traditions are disgusting because there is a lot of death.

It's really f**king sad that people think it's fun when horses suffering, instead of really caring about them, these people say they love horses but in reality they're just betting, it's all about money and it's simply disgusting.

I wouldn't mind equestrian sport in the Olympics if it was suitable for the horse, it wouldn't be over the top, it would be natural for the horse, it would be some contact between the horse and the rider, not the horse a money machine... Not dangerous unnaturally high obstacles or tying in dressage.

A person in sports knows what they're getting into, they're fully aware of the risks, pain, injury, maybe even death, the horse does not know this, and if they knew, they wouldn't go for it.

I remember the movie "War Horse" where they said something along the lines of "they're running away and we're still forcing them into battle" or something like that... Horse racing and top show jumping and dressage are not battles, but people often force horses to do a lot of exaggerated things...just for money.

I know that horses in nature run fast *straight*, especially when they are running away from danger, but no one is pulling their mouths or slapping their ass. Dressage in wild horses in nature is present every day, but they are not tied.

I remember how someone said that dressage should be about the connection of rider and horse, their mutual understanding and harmony, soft and graceful, natural and unforced, unfortunately in most cases it is the opposite.

I wish people would treat other nonhumans better and not like s*it. I wish so desperately, but I know that unfortunately it will never come true.

I was so disappointed when I watched the footage of Charlotte, and immediately thought that it looked like normal training for her, and not "an error of judgement". I seriously hope that she feels as ashamed as she says she does. 🙁

There is no ethical way to jump horses 6 feet consistently, especially through those fucking dangerous xc courses, and the modern dressage rules that encourage a flashy horse, not a sound and biomechanically correct one.

Recently, within this last year an undercover operation by tv journalists exposed one of the wealthiest and well-known dressage riders in Denmark 🇩🇰 who has his own stables, proved through video documentation that he and his ilk were abusing horses while training them.
He lost all credibility and was dropped like a hot potato by the Danish Equestrian Organization. But they themselves have had to field numerous critical questions on why they hadn’t been on top of this a long time ago. People are accusing them of complicity or at least turning a blind eye to the situation.
Now there is extra focus on the Danish riders at the Olympics and with good reason. I don’t think horses should be part of the Olympics at all. They did not request to participate.
