World Malaria

As home to the famous Kano plains, Nyando district in Kisumu County is synonymous with rice production... But the district is also classified as a malaria endemic zone. The high prevalence of the disease puts an immense strain on the community here, but efforts by various stakeholders to control its spread can be described as a case of taking one step forward, and two steps backwards...basic intervention measures such as the use of mosquito nets are being misused. And as Judy Kosgei reports, in Nyando district, mosquito nets have found other uses, at a time when the world is marking the world malaria day.
