My husband had a genetic disorder that caused him to make blood clots. He had several over the years and died when one went to his heart.

I came here for period comments and was not disappointed.

P.S. thank you to everyone (including those who kindly donate their bodies post-mortem) who has a part in making this channel and these videos possible. This is such a great and invaluable learning resource for so many.

I'm a science teacher and I always find you videos very informative. Tomorrow, I'm having a knee replacement and they have talked my ears off about clot prevention. You just convinced me that I need to pay attention and take it seriously! Thanks!

I’ve always had very painful period pains growing up and sometimes would go for months without getting on my periods and when I finally did I would feel like I am giving birth after pushing out a clot out of my vagina. This year January I had the worst experience, I pushed out two huge blood clots which were the size of my hands. I couldn’t walk or anything, all I did was vomit but after pushing the last clot it was as if I never had pain on my abdomen and my period pains ever since have been mild. I hate blood clots!😭💔

I consider myself to be very lucky. In 02 or 03 I had pain behind my knee. I had an ultrasound on a Wednesday, on Thursday I was told that it was a Baker's Cyst. Fast forward to the following Monday, I was sitting at at my desk at work, and all of a sudden I got this sharp stabbing pain in my chest when I inhaled. I was short of breath. I could only inhale very shallow breaths. A co-worker drove me to the ER, I thought that was gas pains and wanted to leave. The hospital made me stay. My entire family showed up at the hospital. I tried again to leave, thinking it was gas pains. I ended up having 2 PE's, and that Baker's Cyst was a large DVT. I was getting Heparin through an IV, and Coumadin orally. I was in the hospital for a week. I didn't realize the danger that I was in until months later when I actually read up on Pulmonary Embolisms. I used to be afraid of needles, but after having blood drawn on the hour, 2 hours, 4 hours, etc., then going daily before work...weekly, bi-weekly....Needles don't scare me anymore. I was prescribed Warfarin, and was forbidden from using a razor for shaving. I was putting out Rat Poison in my garage and was reading the ingredient list. Warfarin was the main ingredient. Sorry for the long post, just my story. I have a MI (heart attack) story too, but that's for another day. I know that I am one of the luckiest people on earth. Folks, live every day as if it were your last. I speak from experience.

I have had several issues with blood clots during pregnancy, with DVT and PE. I had to take those painful shots in the tummy while carrying a person. I don't think I will ever forget that phase of my life... Thanks for helping us to understand how they form and how to prevent them.

Over 10 years ago, I had a pain in my chest that felt like someone was twisting a fish hook right behind my left nipple. Went to my clinic and found out I had multiple blood clots on both my lungs.
Somehow, the doc I saw did not do a damn thing, not even tell me to take an aspirin... so when I told a friend about it, she got this look on her face and she told me to go in ASAP and get a new doctor.
I did.
Saw a new doc and was giving myself sub-q shots that afternoon and immediately started on Coumadin. I have to take it every day for the rest of my life.
I am a very healthy bicyclist, and was pretty shocked about the clots... but was told that anyone from a ballerina to a truck driver can get clots, there is just no telling.

Would be interesting to see how this applies to menstrual clots too.

Thanks for getting this out there. I feel like not enough people are really aware of blood clots. I lost my big brother due to a pulmonary embolism 2 years ago now, and it's made blood clots a top of mind fear ever since.

Aneurysms and blood clots are the scariest medical emergencies to me. A girl I went to high school with died suddenly of a pulmonary embolism when she was only 28. A few years ago one of my favorite pharmacy pts died from a brain aneurysm. Neither person had much warning and both were alone. Anyway, I’m terrified.

I had a DVT a few years back at the age of 21. My entire leg from foot to hip was incredibly swollen and painful. It easily doubled in size. By far the most pain I've ever felt. No amount of pain medication would help at all. Got treated with anti coagulants and stayed in hospital for 2 days. They found out I had a copy of the Leiden V mutation. And other than the fact that I can never use certain birth control types ever again, 3 years later it's all good. But it's definitely scary to think how bad it could have been if it wasn't caught when it was. I was actually supposed to be on a 12+ hour plane school trip the day after I got admitted to hospital. Felt like I dodged a bullet there.
