I use my iphone to shoot a lot of surf photos and videos via digiscoping. It is essential to use a straight scope so that you can follow the subject on the iphone screen while guiding the scope horizontally so that you catch the entire wave. For shooting shorter distances and beachbreaks, i use a 12 by 55 monocular. For bigger surf, long point breaks and deep water reefs, i use a 20-60 60 mm spotting scope.
