The coffee shop is Ship's on Wilshire in West L.A. I used to hang out there sometimes in the late sixties as it was open 24 hours a day. Carlos and I were hanging out at the same coffee shop, same time frame. I didn't start reading his books until 1972. I met a member of Carlos inner circle (ousted by the witches), Joan Wulfshon, in the early 2000s and she answered any question I had about Carlos and his group. I begged Joan's daughter, Mariamne, to teach me the magical passes and once in a while she would oblige. Me'n'Carlos at Ship's.

He always seemed to be able to remember a bunch of new material for another book after Juan and Genaro had departed. He had hit on a formula and a method for generating books that sold well. The results are still interesting as novels and/or embellished records of his own dreamscape.
