My Dad who wouldnt shutup about Trump for the last 6 years actually admitted that he thinks Trump needs to retire. Never thought I'd hear those works.

My best guess is that DeSantis wins the primary, Trump runs as a third party, and the Democrats win because the Republican vote is split. The only way I think it’s possible for Republicans to avoid a party split is to nominate trump, but given the results of the midterms everyone knows there’s no way he’d win. And he’d also probably insist on running (and losing) until he is physically incapable of making the announcement.

If Trump didn't get the nomination he might run as an independent, splitting the GOP votes

That part about Owens made me laugh. Presumably she never had a problem when he was rude to everyone else

This is probably one of my favorite channels for news.

If I had a nickel for every time Trump cost his party the Senate, I'd have two nickels. That's already kind of a lot, and it's especially weird that it happened during a midterm.

Love having an outside perspective on US politics from a country with somewhat similar political dynamics.

The problem for the parrty is that he would be quite happy to bring it down along with him if he gets rejected, as he plainly should be.

Just as very many Tory voters haven't dumped Boris, very many Republicans still love Trump. Never underestimate the stupidity of the general public.

I think most Americans can agree that we just want a political moderate who’s under 70 years of age to run for President.

It will take a concerted effort for Republicans to move on. Even though Trump has no coattails, he still has a cult of personality.

What a weird situation.
The more old school dems are getting less and less popular, but at the same time the republicans are split between the MAGA faction and the generic conservative faction.
Maybe it’s time for a third party candidate?

It really depends on who runs against him in the primaries. If Trump is faced with 10 opponents like he was in 2016, yes - he could win the nomination of the reps. The reason for that is Trump has a steadfast core of about 30% of reps that will vote for him no matter what - and if 70% of the vote is split between 10 other people combined with the reps thing of "Winner takes all" primary results, then yeah - he would win.

There's no way TLDR US will die soon!
The GOP internal fight will require daily 30 minutes videos in order to keep up!

I won't write him off for now. He still has time to change the situation, he is a master in that regard.

If Trump doesn’t get the nomination, I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulls a Teddy Roosevelt and runs as an independent, which would likely split the conservative vote and give Biden/Harris another term. It ain’t smart, but it’s in his character.

Either Trump gets the nomination and wins, or another Republican does and he swallows his pride and accepts it for the good of the party. A united conservative effort is the only way they’ll be able to win unless either Trump or someone else REALLY outshines everyone.

My father switched to Democrat in 2020 after being a lifelong Republican. He's 73.
