Years after the death of Gold Roger, a young boy by the name of Monkey D. Luffy has dreams of raising his own crew, finding One Piece, and declaring himself as Pirate King. I think your criticism about the set design is unwarranted. Oda's world has always been a hard-to-place mishmash of modern technology and pirate-era appropriate gizmos. Brook plays an electric guitar! The neon lamp was invented a few decades earlier than solid body electric guitars. So the fact that the show's set design embraces that is something that is true to the original and part of its charm. They're not *not trying* - they understand the source material very well and are trying to convey the same aesthetic

The One Piece world has rocket ships, robots, cyborgs, advanced A.I. and weaponized lasers, so I feel your criticism about modern day technology is unwarranted.

Turned out a lot better than expected.

this is actually watchable, which I wouldn't have expected after the last few shows Netflix released.

I really hope they don't consider a Dragon Ball adaptation after this.

The production design did not bother me since well its a fictional world and the world itself already has unbelievable stuff. Also that thing on garps head is his signature dog hat and thats basically what it would look in real life. I really enjoyed this adaptation and you can feel the passion and respect for the source.

You can't think that the technology and fashion in One Piece should be like PoC or other pirates movie. Since in the original source is like that too, even there's a sci-fi technology like a ship that has a booster than can make the ship flying for 1 km. So a little neon light and electricity should not be a surprise 😂

I understand the criticism about the tech of opla, but one pieces technology is all over the place in general in a few a story lines they introduce a cyborg that’s powered by Coca Cola

One piece actually has modern technology.. guess in anime not everyone has access to it.. and some has few... In the Movie Gold there's a whole island of casinos with modern tech .. if it's just lights it's no problem.. and their outfit is diverse... Even in anime.. it's just it's not noticable in anime...guess except Luffy wearing shoes instead of slippers ... But it's fine

I really enjoyed the cast. Luffy and Sanji in particular.

with one piece the source material is very anachronistic so i dont mind the technology.

I disagree with your take on set design and dictation on focusing on "Pirates". One Piece as a whole has "Pirates" but the show is also very advanced scientifically considering the show has cyborgs with Franky and Dr. Vega Punk creating Pacifistas from Kuma. He advanced the world ahead 500 years with his scientific discoveries hence the old school meets new school aspect. Also the campiness of pirate designs are meant to like that because it was designed to be stylized and look goofy in the original manga as it an over the top Shonen. So while I agree that some of the footwear needed to be hidden better most of your critiques give off are kind of unwarranted.
Also looking at the what is Garp wearing, that checks out. He does wear a goofy dog hat in the manga and anime albeit it, its longer than that and covers his face during his initial introduction, and stops wearing it later on.
I'll give you Captain Kuro, his outfit looked goofy as hell.

I kinda like that it really is an adaptation taking it’s own spin on the anime

I think you really missed the mark on your criticism of certain aspects, particularly the ridiculousness. One piece is inherently a show that does not take itself too seriously. Its stupid, but it knows its stupid, that aspect of the series is completely accurate to the source material, and if you found yourself cringing at that, maybe the series just isn’t up your alley. (which is fine)
