How to check car battery short circuit? (car diagnostics)

I off-road a lot, so my battery is really dirty. When I went to check the housing voltage, I was astonished to see the volt meter was showing numbers up to 80v! After a thorough cleaning with baking soda and water, I got the housing back to zero.

My car now starts cleaner, and it got rid of an alternator whine. Thank you for sharing this!

My RV was showing voltage like a short on both my positive and negative line 12+ volts. Had my multi meter inline on the negative and Pulled all my fuses. The voltage never dropped. Disconnect my positive line and the voltage dropped to 5+ Turned the thumb screw on the positive post with the line still off and the voltage increased to 9 + my battery case. Seems it might be the issue. Strange. This video might help. I sure hope this is the issue or I am looking at a huge problem to track the battery seems to collect water on it even though it’s under the hood. It’s filthy in no time. I will find a box for it if a Cleaning sorts this out. Thanks

Mines does the same I get around 5-6 volts when touching the body of the battery which seems high compared to yours in the video... But there is almost no water in my battery you think that's the problem?

My amp fuse caught on fire. Melted top a little bit. Could that cause the starter fuse to give our?

Hi sir I am facing exactly same problem with battery even after cleaning battery properly.what to do now?can go for replacement because battery is 3month old and still in warranty period.
One more thing to add that when keeping battery on charging for 24hours & get full charged but that time only 5cell shows gravity above 1.250 while one cell shows gravity below 1.200 it never comes above 1.200 even after charging for more time too.
