You’ve got the v2 model (you can tell by the updated branding/logos) of the ultra 4’s, so I’m assuming Salomon has addressed the issues with the og U4 model

Shoes are a personal thing,

I got a pair of Salomon trail runners (Crossover) and I love them !!
So because of that experience and wanting to try a lighter pair of boots got a pair of X-ultra 4's a while ago, and while they are not bad ...I just don't like flimsy boots I guess .
In my experience these are fine for well maintained trails in okay dry weather, with the occasional few drops of rain.

Would I take them in more challenging situations ??

GOD NO !! ...

These are not 100 % waterproof in extreme situations, offer zero protection other than the tiny toecap, have little grip on wet surfaces, and are horrible on jagged rocky terrain .... plus they are a pain in the ass when it comes to maintenance compared to a leather boot .

On the other hand ; Salomon trail runners perform great for what they are designed to do (exceptional grip and traction !!)
for boots I would stay away from Salomon tbh (but hey, like I said it's a personal opinion)

If you recognize yourself in this and like me you don't mind the bit of extra weight : highly recommend you get yourself a pair "Meindl Island/ Island Pro / Perfect / Super Perfect " a pair "Lowa Renegade/ Renegade Task Force " .
These are more expensive though, but ....they will outlast a pair of Salomon for a time . both Lowa and Meindl also offer (free) resoling on their boots if the need arises .

It is wild that they intentionally designed such large gender differences in the shoes for no reason. The women's shoes have fantastic colorways, the grey/peach color shown in the video is gorgeous in person. The cuff on the women's version is just a more attractive shape as well, I feel like the men's cuff dips down right around the indent of the achilles and would let dirt in.

I can totally see the toe crease becoming a problem, it exists in the sister boot the Quest 4 as well. The Quest 4s hurt like hell for the first 2 hikes because of that toe crease combined with the thicker material on the Quest, but it did loosen up and go away on that model.
