@mistermassive1 No, as of 11.04 they switched to LibreOffice citing the policies of Oracle were too limiting and LibreOffice was more in line with the original idea of OO. You can see it in the video, and I have it running where I am and I saw the switch when we upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04

@adam1611 At the login screen, there should be a drop-down menu at the bottom of the screen. Make sure that you have 'Ubuntu' selected when you login. If 'Ubuntu Classic' is selected, then you will boot into the 'Classic' GUI, eg. 10.10 interface.

@LikeEminem Not really... OpenOffice is still a separate office suite available for download.

@xXFallinPhamousXx Yeah, it runs great on modern pc's.. They made some tweaks for 7 to use LESS ram.. but if it's not using the ram, then it's using pagefile on your hard drive, which is much slower, so basically, the more ram it utilizes, the quicker apps will open etc. Also, after 2 service packs, a platform upgrade or 2 for some win7 capabilities and countless individual updates, it's vastly improved over 2007 code. One big problem back then was GPU drivers and aero conflicts also...

@chrisfur2 U mean the column up the left side? Yeah I'm not a fan of it myself. Look into 10.04 32-bit desktop ubuntu. I found that version to be MUCH better, plus it has long term support(updates for 2or3 years) the non LTS(like 11.04) are only officially supported/updated till the next release comes out, so for 6months. I havent fooled around with mint to much but it look pretty cool.
I'd still go with ubuntu tho.

@gytis156 You can run Windows applications in Ubuntu, using something called WINE.

@Salvadario It worked now, had to install all the drivers and restart :)
But one thing that drives me crazy is how to install applications/programs outside of the USC :P

I'm a windows user, but I've been planning on giving Ubuntu a try because some coleagues that work with it are very happy (for audio and MIDI work, recording, etc). The problem is that I'm also a PC gamer.

I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages that Ubuntu users find with the OS and also some recommendations to use either Ubunto and Windows with the same PC.

Thanks.

@craioveanu95 except for the fact that there isn't a single bit that comes from the Unix Kernel.. -_-' it's GNU/Linux which stands for GNU Not Unix / Linux Because of the fact that the kernel is Linux and all the basic programs on top of the Kernel are ported from GNU..

@RaphaniacZX actually you don't know. is not just the name . its a different company. openoffice was brought by oracle and libreoffice are the original creator of openoffice. totally different programs.
