As a Merc fan I don’t want them to copy other teams, but give up on the no side pods idea. I admire Merc’s efforts on trying to be different and trying to create something great, but it’s not worth the effort and time to make something work that’s clearly not reliable.

Yea the no pod design isn’t working because having significant sized side pods creates enough downforce for the tires to heat up faster and a stronger ground effect.

i dunno i think they need to scrap it ... unless they figure out something MAJOR like now.
I was hoping they would with the past race put that obviously was not the case.

I like how you mentioned the driver feedback at the factory to the engineers, this doesn't get mentioned alot with other channels

The " no side pod " design will work. In many other places it works just fine. Just a bit here and there is all it will take.

IMO The side pods are not the issue. It's the Floor, PU (which they will not admit), or weight.

Imo Hungary showed a flash of what the car can be capable of. We started to see that again in Spa when George was getting close to huntint down Sainz.

I think the zero side pods concept can work and they should stick with it due to what they have learnt, however they are going to need to make some large changes to it to solve some of its issues.

Had no idea you had an F1 channel. Absolute goat🙏

It’s only my unprofessional opinion but I think that the stiffness of the cars ride is the cause of the issues. No other car on the grid is that stiff suspension wise. And the stiffness has got to effect tyre warm up and possibly the aero performance as well as the cars bouncing in the airflow rather than being stable like cars with softer suspension. Probably miles off but I don’t think the podless design is what’s causing the big issues. The draggy nature of the car does seem to be a bi-product of the podless design tho as the downforce loss from not using the downwashing sidepods is having to be over compensated by the floor, wings etc producing more downforce.

The main problem with the W13 is tyre warm up. They could retain the concept while reinforcing the floor with the sidepod. Redbull has reduced the contact area between the sidepod and the floor. They will eventually converge. W13's sidepods is less draggy than Redbull's, there's nothing that proves otherwise. On the other hand, the RB18 relies less on wing downforce, which adds a lot of drag compared to floor downforce, so it's more balanced. *The W13 needs bigger shoulders to cover the air to the rear wheels and increase temps (maybe new brake ducts would do the trick) and a bigger contact area (not volume) to straighten the floor, so they can increase floor downforce and reduce the rear wing thickness*.

I honestly think the biggest deficiency is the engine. I know the teams have a lot of data but I can't help to believe the engine is costing them like 0.3 - 0.4 seconds. I remember in the beginning when other cars were still bouncing, Ferrari was bouncing quite excessively as well and they were still quick. I don't know, it really looks like with the engine freeze everything is gonna be an uphill battle for Mercedes until 2026.

After 4th race week in 2021, Toto said we have switched our attention to 2022.

I feel Merc's dilemma. In theory the "no side pod" concept should have less drag since that's less of the car exposed to wind resistance. But we see they are still slow. To change the concept will be risky and almost like starting all over again. I remember they came out with a car with side pods in that first testing in February/March. I believe, however, their engine is inferior to RB and FER.

Will be hard to copy Redbull, Redbull has fine tuned their car over the season and have probably learned leaps and bounds compared to pre season testing. Look at Aston Martin, they tried copying the RB side pods, to get basically no significant upgrade because they don’t actually understand like Mr. Newey does.

Are they even allowed to blatantly copy another team like that? Is that not like stealing another team's IP? Remember recently when Horner tended towards saying that Aston Martin might have stolen RB's IP via a former RB employee

I think tyres more than anything is the key here.
Each time Merc seem better it is that the car finally
warm the tyre. 2022 car are much harder and bigger
and it take to much time for the W13 to warm the tyres.
Tyre is medium that translate all your car Performance directly
to the road. Even a ferrari with cold tyre is slower than Merc.
For me They must focus on Tyres then after that they can
see better part that aren't efficient.

If Gasly moves to Alpine. Mick can get A/T alongside Yuki cause Marko had an eye out for him in Austria.

The mercs are struggling the only thing I think the Mercedes do better than the Redbulls and Ferrari is tire deg

Redbull team got some hints about the rules changes in my opinion, did you see how they was hiding their car during the launch?
They was fighting till the last conner last year only to then come up with a PLUG AND PLAY type of car that works in all tire compound, all tracks and all conditions really ??? Ross Brown, Adrian Newey and Christian Horner.... i do not trust these trio. Go and check what they all have in common!
The main goal is to stop Hamilton and make Max look good !! the hate is real
