I left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple log cabins and structures from the timber on the land.

To all my subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲

It’s my birthday, and it’s a Saturday night in Australia with a new Homestead video up! Day is made! Ooga booga!

I apologize if this is a repeat, but I would suggest you take the glass out of the new stove, and get a spare one cut from an auto glass store! We all do our best to load the stove safely but Ive had a log slip and crack my glass just before bed time. It is a dangerous hassle and you live further from amenities than I do! I keep a spare for my home stove and my cabin stove now!! Things are really coming together! By far my most watched channel now! Keep up the good work Ooga-booga!!!!

I LOVE the way you are absolutely over-building EVERYTHING! You aren’t just slapping things up like most homesteaders. You are leaving construction that will be around for your children and children’s children unto the third and fourth generation. A legacy!

Don’t forget to vent your roof! Drilling holes towards the top side of your squirrel blockers near the underside of the plywood. Cover the holes with screening to keep out bugs and mice. Aluminum screening works best, because mice can bite through the vinyl stuff. Leave about 1-1.5 inches of space between the underside of the roof and your insulation for air movement. Make sure it’s vented at the crown of the roof as well. Otherwise, condensation will happen, dripping water on the inside of the ceiling. It can cause a major moisture problem. I’ve literally heard water dripping inside of unvented roofs.

Sir James, long time viewer and fellow Ontarian and home builder. Depending on your plan for insulation, if you are doing batts then the soffit blocking is no good. You will require an air space between the batt and the underside of the plywood roof, as well as ridge venting (assuming it's done and part of the roof system?). And venting in the soffit area of each joist bay to allow fresh air in the soffit and hot air out the ridge. Hopefully this makes sense

Good morning James. I love watching your videos. I am a 77 year old women and have built homes and renovated too many to count. I also have a multi saw that vibrates and it is amazing. This tool will be so useful all through the build and for interior work as well. Not that I want to rush things but I am so looking foreword to the puppies arrival.

You should have some airflow up on your rafters, not solid. When you put insulation in your rafters, you should have an inch of air space on the top sid of it.😅😅

Love your channel James! and love your passion for reading books. My wife and I are from US.
I know you have been thinking about creating an air flow / views through your trees to keep mosquitoes down in the spring. But consider the fact this may cause excessive wind and snow drifts in the winter (last winter was mild in comparison). Also, as you may know tree roots keep the soil from eroding from river banks etc. Some of those trees are very old and you will never be able to replace them in your life time. So be stratigic with which ones you fell. :)
May the gods bless you, the old gods and the new! ;)

Have you got river rocks? Bring one back up the slope each time you swim and chuck it in the track. Or start building a pile for your outdoor kitchen /BBQ…

I'm glad you finally ate a trout. In one of your earlier videos you said that you felt like they were your pets and didn't think you would be able to eat one. As a fly fisherman (fishing primarily for trout), I hoped you would change your mind so you would realize what you were missing out on!

A great investment for your ATV is a plow to clear snow from your parking area, path, and vicinity around your cabin. You will be amazed how effective the plow will be both with both snow removal and doing gravel maintenance on your parking area and path. A great hack with the plow for snow removal is to install a 2” pvc pipe on the cutting edge of the plow and you won’t gouge the gravel surface. Key is to get the plow designed for your ATV with a quick connect system. Takes just a few minutes to connect and disconnect. You will love it.

next time you cook a fish on a bbq you should put butter, salt, lemon juice(the kind that comes in that bottle that looks like a lemon) then salt the outside as you did but then wrap it in tinfoil and then cook it the same as you did in this video.

much love from British Columbia :)
