Fingolfin: Challenges Morgoth to a 1v1
still only counts as one!"

How is Lúthien never on any of these lists? She is literally the daughter of a Maia and with her music managed to put Morgoth himself to sleep and move Mandos to such pity that he allowed her and Beren a second life. Doesn’t get much more powerful than that

Finrod Felagund definitely. Being able to battle Sauron just by power of his voice is a remarkable feat of strength.

Everyone forgets what Galadriel did when Eorl and the Rohirrim rode south to the Field of Celebrant. She sent a glowing mist that pushed back all the dark fogs of Dol Guldur AND she healed all the horses and men of weariness so they could ride full speed and get to Celebrant in time to save Gondor.

It took the entire Valar to defeat Morgoth. Then an elf came to challenge Morgoth and managed to give him so many scars as remembrance...Way to go Fingolfin for going that far.

Morgoth: *Stands like a tower in front of Fingolfin in silence*

Fingolfin: "You talk mighty smack for someone whose feet are within stabbing distance. :D"

Maedhros never gets the credit he deserves. He fought and survived every major battle of the first age, survived imprisonment by Morgoth, fought with one hand, lead the Union of Maedhros. A lot of the same can be said for Maglor as well. Luthien defeated Sauron and is the daughter of a Maia, where is she? There are so many powerful elves that we need a part 2

I totally agree with your choice for number 1. The battle between Fingolfin and Morgoth was one of the greatest stories I've read, and still gives me chills. I'm feeling inspired now to read The Silmarillion again.

Elrond will always be my personal favorite. He was one of the very few elves who was never motivated or corrupted by personal ambitions. He always served causes and goals greater than himself. He truly was one of the finest examples of both a hero and great leader.

You forgot Lúthien, who managed to sing Morgoth himself into sleep.

"Morgoth, arguably the most powerful being to enter middle earth"

Never heard of Ecthelion but holy damn would I like to see a live-action sequence of his roaring commands of his forces during the fall of Gondolin and his army's slaughter of orcs.

Holding your own against a Valar is nuts. He definitely deserves top spot. To see an anime of that match would be amazing.

First age was full of Elven badasses. Personal favourite is Ecthelion who took out Gothmog along with himself and of course Fingolfin. A few have been left out but I guess that is for the comments, though you knew that anyway 😄

I agree with your selection, in particular for Fingolfin, I thought about him first. I would add a detail about Galadriel: it was said she was a pupil of Melian the maia who taught her a lot about magic, which combined with her own qualities, made her a quasi maia in Middle Earth

These guys are sleeping on Glorfindel. Gandalf even stated while they are in Valinor shortly after Glorfindel was reimbodied that he saw Glorfindel as on par with the Maiars. His resume is so damn cool that he killed a Balrog in single combat and despite dying, he’s the only one in the elven race to be reincarnated at a short time. That says a lot as Tolkien himself was straight religious. He had both great extent of power in the seen and unseen world as the reason why the Nazgul, Sauron’s greatest chiefs feared him. In the book, “The Fellowship of the Rings” as Glorfindel was searching for Frodo he came face to face with 5 Nazgul and instead of confronting him they fled. Remember that it took only 4 of the Nazguls to chase Gandalf himself. Even the Witch King of Angmar himself fled mid-laugh when Glorfindel arrived with the hosts of Rivendell. His help with the battle of the Last Alliance secured the Elves and Men’s Victory. Also take note that his addition to the FOTR alliance alone could cause distortion to the secrecy of the fellowship. That’s why Glorfindel is my first, second is Fingolfin and third is Gil-Galad

Agree with Fingolfin as #1.

As many have said - Luthien is missing (although she's half Maia, I suppose), and Earendil who slew Ancalagon the Black. Also Finrod Felagund, who slew a werewolf with his bare hands and teeth whilst a prisoner in order to protect Beren, though it cost him his life.

And whilst I don't want to put Galadriel down...technically, it was the White Council and not just Galadriel that drove Sauron from Dol Guldur. The films highlight only Galadriel's role, but in the books it was the whole White Council.

You really should've specified that while facing Gil-galad and Elendil sauron was wearing the one ring, and they still managed to hold their own. That makes it even more Impressive to me, and I wish the movies hadn't cut that part out.
