Duncan Laurence wrote "Arcade" based on a personal experience—a heartbreak involving a lost love.

In 2020, Fletcher, a popular American pop singer, joined Duncan for a duet version of “Arcade.” Her haunting vocals added a fresh dimension to the track.
Duncan started writing “Arcade” around 2016, long before anyone knew who he was. He was still a student at the Rock Academy.
Duncan revealed that Arcade was inspired by the death of a close family friend, who waited years for her lover to return—but he never did.
Some parts of the song were recorded inside a church to capture that natural, echoing reverb and deep, haunting sound that defines its style. #Duncan
