Love your elegantly simple design! When you mentioned flipping the base over, I imagined placing it at right angles to the other for an alt L-shaped table. This would require reconfiguring the tabletops, and would also add complexity, weight, and cost, but if this idea interests you, here are some options:
OPTION 1: Removable tops
* Two removable tops for one of the bases, one to fit the top and and one for the bottom (mirror images). You would need both because flipping the base requires switching tops. Only one of these tops would be in use at any one time.
* Only one of the bases is flipped at any one time, so only one base requires both tops.
* The unflipped top can be permanently attached, but should match the appearance of the top on the flipped base (including the underside if possible). Making it removable would ensure a uniform appearance.
· The top would need a lip on the bottom edge to secure onto the base (no fasteners required).
· For the top you designed, a 1/2" thick edge trim that wraps around the top would work.
· If you want the trim to be hidden, you could secure it onto the underside of top, and size it to fit inside the 1x frame of the base.
· Alternatively,   a 2" x 1/2" edge trim, centered vertically on the tabletop edge, and fitting around the outside edge of the base, would provide both a bottom and a top lip. The top could be used like a tray, or could be finished with grouted tile, stone, or a mosaic design.
* There would be added complexity due to having to miter edge trim corners 45°, 67 1/2° and 22 1/2°.
OPTION 2: Finished top and bottom on both bases
* Both bases would need a top on both top and bottom faces. This could add substantial weight and cost, depending on materials you choose, but would add little complexity.
* Tops would be permanently fastened to bases as in your original design.
* Would need to provide removable pads or feet to protect tabletop surfaces on the bottom face from damage.
* Possibilities for tabletop materials and finishes are endless:
· Corian/lexan/glass (not cheap, requires specialized cutting tools)
· plywood finished with paint, stain, wood veneer, plastic laminate, sheetmetal (galvanized, copper, stainless), leather, fabric
· Ceramic tile/stone/glass mosaic on blueboard with durable edge finish
· 5/4" decking (cedar, fir, mahogany, pine)
· tongue and groove/shiplap
· 1 x boards (I believe this is what you used)
Thanks for your great videos showing women doing things for themselves, and loving it!

This is the best minimalist piece of furniture because it could easily be a coffee table that clicks into place with connectors on either side, or two side tables depending on whichever you need at the time. ♥️

God Alaska is beautiful. Every time you show those amazing mountain range views it truly takes my breath away! What a stunning landscape...

GREAT idea for the coffee table too! I love the way you guys make things as you see the need for them and always make them custom to exactly meet those needs. My thought would be to make a version of that two piece table with plywood box bases (well, not exactly boxes but strange geometric shaped containers!) on casters and hinged tops to allow for easy movement and storage in the bases. I'd also make the table tops so that they overhang the boxes a bit and might even add little hook & loop locks to be able to lock them together if one wants. They'd be more expensive to make, but even more multifunctional.

These tables would also make a great table to be placed in the corner of the room. Versatile build!

Thanks for this video. I would not build this piece but it gave me several ideas of my own. This creative stimulation is well worth coming to YouTube for, so thanks again!

Loved, loved meeting you at WBC! And the table (for those only seeing it in this video) is as beautiful in person as it looks in the video. 😍 Ana! Be sure to add link (affiliate and all) to the safety glasses. I could use a pair. I tend to use goggles my kids have collected from THD kid workshops 🙂
