This is my favorite album of all time and I think this is the best piece. The first 5 minutes are insanely good.

When Yes got back together for their Master Works tour they polled the fans for their favourite live songs and Ritual won by a slight margin over Close To The Edge. They played both on the tour, the video and soundtrack of that tour is brilliant a must listen for Yes fans.

Now I wonder why I do not listen more often to the music of my teenager years, having all the Yes, Beatles, Oldfield, Genesis and other albums of the era. Guess I am too busy with work, the news and other distracting things. But then when someone gives a first time reaction to that music, I love it, and take time to watch them enjoy it and give their insights about if fifty years later. I am glad a lot of that analog music (without autotune or strict rhythm indicators) pass the test of time. By the way, I have three posters of Roger Dean paintings framed on my walls, one of them the Tales fromTopographic Oceans cover image.

This track is one of life's unforgettable joys to experience Live. In any era. Best recorded versions are YesShows, and even 25 yrs later on Symphonic Yes dvd.

We are of the Sun- I prefer the revealing science of god but this is my second favourite side of this album as like the first side it is slightly less challenging and easy to listen to. I would often play the first and last sides at a sitting even when i was listening on vinyl and had to faff with two sleeves. Of course now it is simple to pitch them back to back on a playlist, but what a fabulous ride that is!

While there are better sounding live audio versions, I love the video of the Song of Tsongas 35th anniversary performance of this song. Squire and White have a fantastic extended rhythm section in the performance.

Amazing album. It's Billy Sherwood's favorite album. The instrumentals on Yes are always fantastic, but standing out even more than usual is Alan White and Jon. And the lyrics are so beautiful.

For me TFTO is way up there with the best Yes albums. Those top 5 or 6 are are so very good the thing that for me makes any one better is my own mood at the time. So many do not have the time to get into TFTO and that is a real pity. I took the time to really get into this album and it delivers ten fold. But Yes music is like that invest time and reap the musical, emotional, journey and spiritual rewards. Ritual is a great song from a great album. Allow time for TFTO to weave its magic it is well worth it.

As daunting as the album may seem, I was able to memorize the lyrics within a month of owning it, right when it came out. The book that inspired the album, "Autobiography of a Yogi" was scooped up and read a couple of times. There was a lot of spirituality in the music in the early 70s, which elevated the product...and the times.

Yes are definitely one of the best progressive rock bands. All excellent musicians. But if you want to listen to some absolutely insane musicianship listen to Magma. And since they are best experienced live watch a live video of Magma.

But who are Magma? Magma are a French band that created a completely new genre of music called "Zeuhl". According to the TV-channel ARTE (a French-German collaboration) that broadcasted a feature on them last year Zeuhl is a mixture of jazz, rock, classical, modern avant-garde, rhythm and blues, metal and world music. What's more: Magma created their own language called "Kobaïan" in which 99% of their songs are sung (very rarely they use French or English).

But that's still not all: All Magma albums are concept albums and connected. They tell a tale from a future in which mankind has ecologically destroyed Earth and exiled to the planet Kobaïa (though not necessarily in the order of appearance). Some of their songs have no studio version but several live versions. Many of their albums consist of one long song only, like for example "Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kommandöh", "Ẁurdah Ïtah" or "K.A." (short for "Köhntarkösz Anteria"), to name but a few.

In 2000 Magma gave their 30th anniversary concert of which a movie was made. They played only 3 songs in it: "Theusz Hamtaahk", (one of the songs of which there is no studio version), "Ẁurdah Ïtah" and "Mëkanïk Dëstruktïẁ Kommandöh", but since all these songs are very long the concert was over 2 hours long. We recommend you listen to "Theusz Hamtaahk" for starters. We will give you a link. Since this is from the movie the first 90 seconds show the band preparing for the concert and the audience entering.

Be warned though: This is not easy music to get into, and many people hate Magma. But even haters will admit that the musicianship is absolutely top notch. This music is extremely difficult to play live, especially in the fast passages (when Magma get fast they REALLY get fast).

And here the link:

So: Are you ready for your trip to the planet Kobaïa?
