or we could do the nordic model & have high taxes, high growth with equality & welfare state expansion. nimby rent-seeking is a drag on economic growth & is the price we're all currently paying for doing asset-based welfare in lieu of universalist welfare state expansion.

These policies are all good but there's no substitute for a large welfare state (tax and transfers do the main work for poverty and inequality reduction in other countries) and for much stronger labor rights.

The policies Yglesias is proposing make sense but other than full employment (which does dramatically reduce inequality and poverty), I doubt they'd move the needle much in terms of equality.

This video misses the entire point of Matt's general view toward policy. It's not an articulation of ideal endpoints, it's an attempt to frame realistic policies in a way that would make them more favorable. This can be done, it just takes left wing activists to understand that they need to frame correctly (as, for example, civil rights leaders did in the 60s). The idiocy is in the modern left's view that holding ideologically pure views is great despite having no actual strategy to obtain power and actualize such views in policy.

Answer is no. Equality and growth are mutually exclusive

debate @epbresearch, he has a great video about the US debt crisis and how it kills productivity. He has some interesting videos, seems knowledgeable and would probably destroy you in a debate.
