Throughout the day at TiEcon, we will discuss the many components of the Internet of Things: devices, protocols and infrastructure. While all of these are both necessary and important, most of them are already being developed for the "regular" internet. In this closing keynote session, Sandy Carter, General Manager IBM Ecosystem Development, will discuss how entrepreneurs and VCs can avoid being swept up in a fast-moving current driven by outside forces. Sandy will offer insight into where entrepreneurs should concentrate their time and where VCs should concentrate their funding. What are companies doing with the Internet of Things that they are not doing with the Internet? What should they be doing? The answers to these questions will drive much more value than whether an entrepreneur supports X chipset or Y protocol. In this keynote, Sandy will contrast the common vs. unique aspects of the Internet of Things, identify the major customer use cases and several common roles, consider consumer vs. enterprise focus, and suggest where new innovation and investment can produce material improvements over the next 12-18 months.
