In this lecture Stephen Fitzpatrick, founder of Ovo Energy, offers an insight into the UK energy market and discuss Ovo Energy’s ambitious plans to take on the big six and create 500 new power providers by 2020.

Stephen Fitzpatrick founded Ovo Energy in September 2009 determined to do things differently. From his kitchen table in Gloucestershire, Stephen set about challenging the industry status quo: he wanted to create a simple, honest and competitively priced energy company that treated its customers fairly. Today, Ovo is one of the fastest growing and most innovative independent energy suppliers in the UK, with over 500 staff and 360,000 customers.

Prior to Ovo Energy, Stephen spent five years as a trader at Société Générale and JP Morgan. As a senior vice president at JP Morgan, he was responsible for the day-to-day trading in a number of sectors including Industrials and Utilities. No stranger to start-ups, before working in the City Stephen launched The Rental Guide Ltd, a successful property newspaper, for which he was a national finalist in the Livewire Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.
Stephen graduated with a Bcom in Business from Edinburgh University.

This talk was recorded on 13 November 2014.

This lecture was organised and hosted by Energy Futures Lab in conjunction with the UK Energy Research Council.
