5 Reasons Why the Fujifilm X-E4 is NOT a Better Option Than The x100v

Lately, the Fujifilm X-E4 has been the topic of hype. I'm here to change that. Just kidding. The X-E4 is Fujifilm's latest release and is a great bang for buck camera. But naturally due to its style and aesthetic, its been garnering much comparison to the x100v. So despite all of the great things about the X-E4, I still believe the x100v is a better option (yes even when comparing price). The x100v is packed with many features that are well worth the money. Now obviously everyone's needs and wants in a camera are different, but here are my reasons as to why the x100v is still a better option than the X-E4. If you are in the market for an X-E4 - reconsider the x100v. Perhaps the small price difference is worth looking into.

X100 V leaf shutter, built in flash, ND filter, M/S/C (focus) switch, Viewfinder size and quality, grip of front + thumb rest on back, weather sealed, back of camera scroll wheel and more buttons and finally the combined iso/shutter dial.

They're both great cameras ... At the end of the day it really depends on your own user experience as photographer.

I love the idea of the X100V but I already own Fuji lenses and love that I can use them with the XE4. Plus you can experiment with other lens brands like Leica. The one feature I wish was on the XE4 is that slick shutter/ISO dial but it’s not a deal breaker.

Honestly, it’s a really tough choice. I’ll probably end up owning both. :D

IMO, if you’re gonna have only have one camera, the x-e4 still gives you the freedom to try other lenses until you’re sure you can commit to 23mm at all times, you can try faster appertures, etc. BUT if you’re sure you’re gonna do 95% of your shooting at 23mm, it’s hard to beat the image quality and package size of the x100v.

I went for the x-e4 because I shoot in low light a lot and I love faster lenses. But I’m still super tempted to get an x100v for all those other times where I know I won’t need extra lenses and I’d rather go compact.

Nice analysis! I'm torn between the two for a pocket camera... I'm leaning towards the x100v though... Main reason is the viewfinder.

The X100V also has a leaf shutter and built-in flash. You can do some neat things with that when combined with the ND-filter.

The temptation with x-e4 is the interchangeable lens, at some stage you will start to get bored with 23mm focal length on the x100v and want experiment with different lenses/focal length. The reason some people that have sold their Fuji x100 serious camera was the 23mm limitation, at some stage they got bored and sold it off, as a photographer you want be able to experiment with different focal length.

To my eyes the x-e4 is a very stylish camera with minimalistic approach, its an inspiration from Leica Q2, we have to give credit to Fuji for creating such small compact camera with amazing capabilities. x-e4 will be my pick :-))

5 reasons why the xe4 is better m mount glass, 23mm f1.4, tele glass, smaller, cheaper

its really just the interchangeable lenses for me. excellent points on the x100v, completely agree. unfortunately for me, with this knowledge, i now feel like either one is a compromise. enter the Xpro 3... well played fuji..

Not sure why you got so many dislikes. You brought up some valid points and explained yourself clearly.

You forgot the most important advantage of the X100 series in my opinion, which is the leaf shutter and the high speed flash synch it enables. No need to use an ND-filter for photography when you can use flash at ALL speeds! I use an X70 and the amount of (fill) flash is always spot on not matter if at night or in bright sunlight. That blew me away. Also compared to other compact cameras. Compared to a camera with interchangable lens (and the obligatory conventional shutter) this is the one killer feature.

I think the X100v is a very niche camera. It’s best suited for a particular shooter, whereas the X-E4 is far more suitable for a broader shooting experience. The fixed lens is the pivot point. You can still be a single lens user on the X-E4, except you get to choose what that lens is, and you have more options for adaptions. If you want compact, there’s options for that too. The other features are more about user experience and really don’t affect the quality of the visuals so they’re less polarizing factors. It’s honestly an odd decision by Fuji, in my opinion, to have the fixed lens attached to the body that has more body features. Feels like you pay more to be able to do less, just more efficiently. Very niche.

I love this discussion! I agree that the X-E4 is not a X100v killer because there’s a market for it, but I’d imagine that it outsells it for sure given the price point and more lens options.

Sorry there is no comparison between these cameras from same brand ... it’s purely they avail options for choose among both as right from budget and other things ... no need to compare ...

Thanks for the video. I ended up getting the x100v after being disappointed with the missing buttons & dials of xe4...best decision ever!

how you can say that ability to change lens is not important, its the main advantage of x-e4, its huge option to not be stucked with one lens

The X-E4 is a nice versatile camera due to the ability to take multiple lenses. However, for the reasons stated in this video and more it will NEVER be comparable to the built, look and more importantly to me the FEELING! yes the FEELING! you get when shooting with the X100v.

A message from the future, where I live (AU) x100v is over $2000 as opposed to xe4 kit (paired with 27mm f2.8) for $1400, I guess for $600 you can drop many of the features you mentioned.
Buttons lay out comes down to habits, ND filter is the major loss but it's missing in other expensive fuji cameras too, not a big deal and you can get a physical one for $20. Interchangeble lens is about style, tilt screen is not really a factor, the sensor is the same and photo quality very close I'd say. My 2 cents.
Thanks for the tips.

If you're even questioning which one to get you're probably looking for a high quality camera, with a slim profile, that you can carry everyday without making decisions about extra gear. Get the x100v. At this price, there's no equivalent.

If you prioritize having an array of lens options then you shouldn't even be considering the x100v. In that case, get yourself a proper camera that will blow both cameras out of the water. The ex-4 is just going to be a gateway into a more expensive, feature heavy camera anyway.
