Asking for a raise is usually a waste of time. It’s best to find a better job. It took me over two years to find a great job.

If you aren't getting some form of automatic cost-of-living adjustment on an annual basis. That's a red flag. LEAVE!

Double down if you ask for one and then are denied.

Thank you very much. Subscribed. I would never have brought up any of the things said here except for "expenses" but now I realise I was right to wait and offer value before asking for a raise.

What if it's a situation where positions both above and below your job title all received raises while everyone in the same position as you was neglected?

Hey Don, the most substantial increases come from getting offers from other companies. Wouldnt that be the better route if looking for a pay increase?

F that...the cost of living is too high for the BS!

If you have to _ask_ for a raise, your boss doesn't care about you. Leave.

Before many months i was working on two companies and i was getting 700 euros per month in total (part time jobs). In one company they told me that the time schedule was changed. And then told my boss that work in other company and i cant follow the time schedule of the work. Then she asked how much i get paid. I told this price. Then i was told to leave the other company and work for her. I told her i cant because i need that money. Then she told me how much do you want? I told her i wamt 750 euros. Then she did the raise.

You mentioned something interesting at 1:41. "the market value of your job".

What is that and how does one determine the market value of what you do in a large corporate grocer?

Hello Don.
I'm currently getting ready to request a higher salary.
Your tips are very valuable.

A multi bullet points list of topics covered would help us in the comments section rehears what to say, not to say, do, not do etc.

My pay is dictated by the Government who declared all NHS workers within a particular banned get paid the exact same amount. Sadly it means I have no bonus or insensitive to work EXTRA hard. My boss constantly increases targets, despite my part time hours. It's impossible to manage fulltime meetings, training and administration duties on part time hrs. So I just dont hit targets. Yet constantly they go up. My wage is unchanged. I work hard, I do what's possible and keep my CPD uptodate. The only pressure to work unpaid to hit targets is your own anxiety to perform.
Just DONT. It would be so hard for them to justify sacking me or replacing me. I see my own value. I wont be ground down by an employer pushing for toxically unhealthy targets.

You sound like a owner that doesn’t want pay employees lol you need them as much as they need you

Several things are wrong with this.
1) Companies are routinely stagnating wages so they can profit off paying people less than they are worth.
2) Experience almost always makes a person better able to do any job, so time with a company SHOULD be valuable, they just don't see it that way because they want to exploit you.
3) Have market research on pay rates and if possible another job offer. Do inform your boss of your value and give them the opportunity to retain your services, if they choose not to, you weren't being 'hostile' ITS JUST BUSINESS.

Don, how to ask for working less hours, maybe making less money, but keeping your job? For someone who already paid their debts and mortgages off. Maybe you can make a video on that.
