The Razer Boomslang from 1999 was the first 'gaming' mouse. One thing ruins its legacy though..

That ball alone was probably heavier than some of today's mice.

This honestly looks exactly how I would expect a gaming mouse from late 90s or early 00s to look.

I remember when this came out. It was *expensive*, costing more than my graphics card. I was gaming 10+ hours every day and tried this out at a café to see if maybe it could give me some sort of edge. I hated it. Both that it wasn't optical and that it had the ball low down in the palm.

The IntelliMouse Explorer was the best "gaming" mouse back then. Still have a 3.0 in a drawer

I remember going through every high end ball mouse going and being stuck on one level of Unreal. Then the intelli mouse explorer came out and with a mouse change I was suddenly able to finish the game no problem. I had the chance to try a boomslang at a Lan party... I gave it back after about 2 min.

I wish they'd bring back the Boomslang with modern tech.

I remember buying one of these as a teenager for Unreal Tournament.

I had a technique with a Ball Mouse where I could activate just the X-axis for those quick horizontal snipe wrist snaps

Haha mechanical mice. I remember. Do you remember the first mice on the first laptops? They flipped it upside down and you move the ball with your thumb. It was awesome. I played so much solitaire xD

you laugh... I have mine connected to the laptop I'm currently on right now.

and yes... I purchased it NEW on release day for my first WINDOZE gaming rig to go with my blazing fast Quantum Obsidian2 200SB (I only gamed on consoles and Amigas prior).

Half Life was AWESOME on that thing.

Few words can encapsulate a moment in time like "boomslang". The 90's were truly wonderful lol It also a pretty good showcase of how gamer marketing has never not been embarrassing.

I had that one and it was literally the only Razer product I ever owned that lasted more than a year.

Looks like batman lost his gaming mouse 😂

I had one of those. When I was playing FPS games and had a quick flick side to side the ball would ride up inside the mouse and lost contact with the surface/table. So whenever things got serious, the mouse would just not work and I'd miss SOOO many shots. Drove me crazy, returned it. Never looked back.

Some old ones do hold up, my mouse is nearly 15 years old now.
