The White House has confirmed that illegal immigrants with criminal records will be President Donald Trump's priority in his deportation drive.
At the first official press briefing of the Trump administration on Monday, White House Spokesman Sean Spicer said "the focus is going to be on people who have done harm to our country."
He added that immigrants who have overstayed their visas are also on the list of the administration's enforcement priorities.
This came as the spokesman was asked about the future of former president Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which protects over 700-thousand young immigrants from deportation.
Shortly after his election victory, Trump had said he would focus on two to three million criminals living in the country illegally.
Spicer also said the president has begun working with Congress on his primary immigration promise to build a wall along America's border with Mexico.
