The town in the thumbnail could be a place called Bethel's End, in 15th century England. It always gets dark at around 4.00pm, even in high summer. When darkness falls, you had BETTER be inside. Even stray dogs and the rats that crawl the filthy streets find somewhere secluded to hide, as unspeakable beings roam through the streets calling to eachother and laughing in what sounds like a language from somewhere else. During the short daylight hours, the residents trudge downtrodden and afraid through the streets to gather what supplies they can. They cannot leave; Bethel's End is totally shut off and closed in.
