Due to the nature of the topics covered and discussion/criticism of companies + brands in the sewing industry, it is challenging to monetize this channel. Most influencer contracts require a non-disparagement clause, meaning you can't say anything negative or even remotely critical about the brand. This is a large reason why you don't see a lot of reporting on the sewing + crafts industry. Remaining as independent as possible allows me to maintain editorial + creative freedom.

I'm not in the mood to shop for holiday decorations six months in advance. The timing is helpful for makers who plan to sell holiday creations closer to the season. I find when I wait to shop closer to the holiday, the selection is already picked over and/or moved to the clearance section of the store. I use to like Halloween until my neighborhood closed the street, inviting hundreds of people to our neighborhood. We get 1000+ trick or treaters!

I buy school supplies throughout the year. Cheap crayons, coloring books, pencils and fun erasers. Teens that are escorting younger kids have been thrilled with corded earbuds (believe it or not). What doesn't get taken is still good next Halloween. Maybe it is because I get kids who may not always get the supplies they needed at the beginning of the school year or they have already used up what they did get.

I work at a JoAnn Fabric store. Customers are loving Halloween/fall items being displayed earlier this year. Or else hating it. I think the buyers from JoAnn has out done themselves this year in choosing beautiful floral items and decorations. A lot of things are selling fast. A lot. Some customers aren't happy about having stock out this early. But think about this... money is tight for so many families right now. If a family wants to purchase something (any item, at any store) they need to budget for it. Having things on display earlier helps to buy something now and buy something in the future, and not having to stress about getting what they want all at the same time. Another point is that it is helpful for vendors at a craft show. Crafters need their supplies right now for craft shows and to be able to make their items ahead of time. Craft shows are already starting up for the holiday seasons, starting with fall. And, for reference, Hobby Lobby already has some of their Christmas items on display for about a month now. I'm not disagreeing with that. Same thing goes for budgeting or craft show supplies for Christmas items. I think this is great and will help the economy. No one says you have to start buying anything for the holidays now, but there are some great sales going on! P.S. I love our 8 foot skeleton! He makes me smile every time I walk in our store!

As far as Michael’s selling fabric, I was impressed with what I saw in store. As you stated, even Joann is selling a “budget quality”. The only problem I had was finding someone to cut it!! There is a sign stating you should take fabric that needs to be cut to the framing section. That’s not really a good plan. I hate to disturb someone who is working in the back of the frame section just to cut me some fabric. Twice I tried to purchase and left because of that.
