5 Easy Steps to Draw Floor Plans with Morpholio Trace

Hi! I’m Henry Gao. I help architects and designers switch from drawing by hand to drawing on the iPad.

Since 2017, I’ve developed a method that keeps the feel of hand drawing while using digital tools. This way, you avoid the usual pen-and-paper hassles (like scanning, updating, and fixing drawings) and work even faster.

A big thank-you to Red Dot Studio for supporting this channel!

Great tip about zooming in and adding a new layer to mitigate pixelization issues

Great Tips. I love your videos! I wanted to ask if there are any ways to snap an exact length line in Trace, rather then just using the ruler feature. If you are zoomed out and drawing a long line, you can miss the mark by quite a bit. How about adjusting the length of a line?

Aloha Henry from the big island of Hawaii. I have a simple question for you, and that is I’ve been very curious about SketchUp for years and years, but I found Morpholio trace a couple of years ago, and in your opinion, can a beginner, and what I mean by beginner is, I’m just drawing up plans for my own little house and guest quarters here on our property in Hawaii, can a beginner use trace for all of my floorplan needs? Also, I would like to know are you an engineer because I’m looking for some plans to be tweaked a little bit very simple what we call a holiday here in Hawaii just a square building. Thank you for your time.

The creation of a layer that's only the size of the viewed area seems to be not working on my morpholio trace app. Is there a setting that needs to be activated to be able to do this? Each time I create a trace layer, it's the size of the entire canvas. Thanks for all the tips!

So I have recently had issues with the pixelation of the linework. The layering option is annoying and gives me severe OCD because the drawing/trace pages dont line up anymore. Even in export they show up on the base drawing. I will try the scaling tip to see if this fixes it, but this is a huge flaw in Morpholio's ability. You'd think they would have a solution to something so detrimental... as always though, great video! Would like to see more of your actual design work vs tips/tricks videos. Also, congrats on interviewing with Eric from 30x40! Thats a huge accomplishment!

Hi Henry, thanks for all the content you post - these videos and your course have been really helpful. Im running into an issue that maybe you can help with if you have see similar issues. I opened up a PDF of a floor plan that was exported from Revit at 1/4" scale. I followed your steps on setting the scale but now, no matter which brush or thickness I use the lines are completely blurry (and if I draw a short line it doesn't show up at all) Its not the smoothness on the brush setting, that is at 100% and the size of the plan isn't anything too large where I would think that would be the cause (its just a single family house) If you have any tips that would be appreciated, Thanks

All this time put into the sketching which is not really quick, need to be redrawn in cad afterwards. Still not sure what the purpose of it rather than quick sketches in front of a client. Panning and zooming is a time consuming thing in Morpholio. Again if you want to share this, then need to add titleblocks and stuff…
You just spent few minutes to set up the scale. It should be auto pop up by clicking on page size+ scale and done.
