As a music educator and professional vocalist, I have sung this chorus and Amen many times in my 43 years of professional endeavor. I have heard it many times performed by the greatest ensembles of this age. I have never heard it before and had tears of pride and joy stream down my face as I have just now experienced. I felt the presence and power of God, and it was as if each singer devoutly believes what they are singing to be God's eternal truth. I am of mixed racial ancestry, and if DNA tests may be trusted, I am 55% West African. I suppose that is why I felt such a sense of pride-so profound indeed- as I watched and listened. The director is much to be commended, as well as the musicians. The trumpeter did a fine job. The keyboardists were flawless. The beauty and grace of the women and the frank manliness of the men of the chorus, combined with the stunning visual presentation of your attire all worked together to add the cherry to the top of your artistry. I will call this an inspired and inspiring rendition, rather than a performance. Because I do not believe you were performing. I believe you were singing as though you were before God Himself- to His glory. God bless you all, and thank you for stirring my soul to its depths.

Just as God inspired Handel to compose this magnificent work, He inspired this chorus to bless us and Himself with this heavenly rendition. Absolutely divine!

My confession: I was searching on YouTube for a definitive recording or performance of Handel’s ‘Amen’ chorus to send to a friend

I nearly skipped over this recording, I am ashamed to say, simply on racial grounds because this is usually associated as ‘white’ people music (especially thinking of UK cathedral / church choirs and their choral societies) and so I was looking at atypical white choirs such as King’s College, Cambridge - in precisely the same way that if I wanted a piece of music associated with black ethnic heritage, I wouldn’t look at white choirs for a definitive performance.

I kind of presumed that this choir, at first glance would be more like a Gospel Choir or something equally brilliant associated with so-called black music. There’s no doubting that choirs like King’s College, Cambridge are technically brilliant and have made definitive recordings of this piece.

But wow - how wrong was I to have almost dismissed this Choir out of hand? It’s not just that they are technically brilliant as well, but the energy, power and sheer pathos of this performance took my breath away. I could feel Handel’s passionate writing and composition emerge in a way I never have before. I felt as if Handel’s spirit was alive in this conductor, choir, orchestra and even in the audience.

Thank you to the Gramophone Chorus of Ghana for this outstanding and, dare I say, definitive performance but also for challenging my stereotype and broadening my mind. You have given King’s College, Cambridge a run for their money. I will be looking out for more of your work and listening to the full performance of this spectacular oratorio.

Breathtaking performance & God is glorified. Thanks for the choir especially in your talent. Special thanks to the conductor. It’s amazing his confidence he is to control to perfection all parts & instruments.

I am Nigerian and believe our jolof rice is better than Ghana’s but this rendition from Ghana beats any from Nigeria.
Simply beautiful and flawless.

Normally a choir is a meeting of medium voices which make a high job. In this case, they are a All Star choir!!! This theather does not accommodate so much power! I imagine how tremendous they would sound in appropriate place with a huge orchestra. They deserve to be recognized! Why only privileged white people can sing in the Westminster Abbey, for example? Can you imagine THIS choir singing there? The heaven would be shaken!!!

After two years absence, I listened to this recording again. My tears flowed again, as at the first hearing, from start to finish. I feel the Presence of the Holy Spirit as I experience this majestic and worshipful rendition. I believe this is the way that Handel wanted it to be performed- worshipfully. He related that he had a spiritual experience during the 24 days composition of The Messiah. He shared that he saw the heavens open up, and saw angels ascending and descending before God's throne. So, I know that the artist was a man of Christian faith and conviction. I imagine that the angels in heaven sound contrapuntal like this when they sing to the Father and the Son. Can you imagine what The Messiah would sound like with heaven's angelic choir singing it? I would die from pure joy to hear it performed perfectly in its entirety. When we get to heaven, if heaven's choir does requests, I want to hear them sing The Messiah. Until then, this Gramophone Chorus rendition will serve as a glorious proxy. "Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow!"

In my younger days I was a tenor in a Dutch Oratorium choir, so I know this wonderful piece of music. I have heard quite a number of excellent performances of Händel's "Worthy is the Lamb'', but from now on I will always remember the way this great choir from Ghana sang it. The clear personal involvement of all the singers and director was the first thing that drew my attention. They were all singing ''with heart and soul'', so they proclaimed a clear, evangelical message. I was really impressed and deeply touched ! Thank you, choir from Ghana!
