This would be a great action in Apple Shortcuts. Especially, because you are able to automate when leaving specific locations now e.g. if I leave my friends house, automatically send a Check-In to my friend

Great feature! However, I am regulary traveling by train where gps connection is very bad. After 15 min I get the message that it looks I am delayed, with two options: end checkin or add time. But I am on time, just gps is behind. Would be nice to have a third option like I am still on time.

Does anyone know why the check in feature activated by itself? My finance went to the store and we got the check in message when neither of us did anything

Please note that the Check In sender must have their Cellular data plan enabled and Location Services turned on.

You will have to use Check In Timer, not Check In Location, for those early morning walks as when leaving the house your destination will be too close and you will get an error. I had to walk 1/2 mile before I could start Check In using location.

That’s great info, thanks. It’d also be a great idea to allow sending these notifications to users that don’t have an iPhone: details might be less or none, but being able to send them an automated message (plain old sms) at your arrival or if delayed would be somehow “easy” to implement, making this feature way more usable (in the USA there might be so many iPhone users that the chances of requiring to send a notification to an Android user are minimal, but that’s not the case in all regions) :)

What about checkin for flights? Would be good to be able to check the progress of flights and get notified using this feature. I know other apps do it but would be good for native support through messages.

love this feature, this feature is what i need no question asked, cause sometimes im sick if people not beleiving that im stuck in traffic for whatever reason, some accident on the road, tree on the road, etc etc, and they actually think i are still at home lagging, this is helpfull as hell, tnx again!

For me, the check in doesn't ask me to add any time and adds it automatically. I wanted to try to simulate the situation where you dont respond but I could not figure out why it did not trigger any alerts even when I went off track for a long time. Check in did not ask me to add time but just added it automatically and pretended nothing is wrong... Both iPhone 14 Pros with latest iOS 17 version installed.

Is there a check In option when phone connects to a certain WIFI instead of location/timer? This would be more accurate because it would mean you are inside the house safe.
