Pulling your kids out of the "system" is one of the best things you can do, especially in this sociopolitical climate. However, homeschooling isn't an option for all families. We should focus on changing the education model from the ground up, and some schools are already doing this.

I am a college history professor. Some of my very best students were the ones who were homeschooled. I have been so impressed that I have shared all my lectures as a free resource to help homeschoolers. I even made a video explaining why homeschoolers make better college students. I have been teaching for 27 years.

My 7 year old niece is homeschooled. This fall she is starting third grade curriculum and is currently working on starting up her own sourdough business. She has also been earning money by thrifting with her dad and paying him to sell said items on his eBay shop. No way she would have these kind of opportunities in the public school system or even a private school setting. If you have the opportunity to homeschool your children, DO IT.

I work for a Cristo Rey school... high-school students are in school 4 days a week and work 1 day a week for a corporate sponsor--banks, hospitals, law firms, and more. I love being able to see the students become more confident and autonomous as they learn practical skills that they apply in the classroom and at work.

This is a forward-thinking approach that not only fosters independence among the students, but also prepares them for real world challenges.

As Gen Z I can say high school taught me nothing practical. Much of the time was spent talking about social justice and not learning any skills

As a high schooler, I wish MY school had something like this. It seems so much better than sitting at a desk all day, and it would actually prepare me for going into the workforce.

When I was a little girl, we went on a field trip to a place that was set up like a small town. Everyone was given a job. Mine was to run the flower shop. You were given a budget and were expected to live within your means. I needed to buy product for my store and pay myself afterward. While expecting my fellow townspeople to want to buy my product. At the end of the day we were told to go to the grocery store and buy food. When my 10-year-old classmate rang up my groceries and told me I did not have enough money I was floored. I was so embarrassed putting my plastic meat and potatoes back on the shelves while my classmates watched. I saw how hard I worked for so little and it made me super sad. I learned more from that hands on experience about economics than my high school and my college classes ever taught me.

I still want homemaker classes and courses in High School such as cooking, how to properly take care of children, and what to expect and the lot for homemaking. I also do want some classes for how to embroider, sew, and things like that too.

I homeschooled for 30 consecutive years. One of my kids is now a lawyer, another has her masters in library science. All 4 of my kids had college scholarships

I WISH I could afford to stay at home and homeschool my kids. The ironic thing is I’m a full time high school teacher. 😭

I am a high school student currently, and at my school, we have a job shadowing day where all students get to make phone calls to local businesses and job shadow employees. I enjoy it so much, because you get to learn about so many different career paths.

Hi Brett! I went to public school up until 7th grade and my parents moved me to a Classical Charter School due to the failures of public school. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for the education I receive at my school. We started with the history of Rome and Greece and progressed through Western tradition. We read classic novels and study the greatest philosophers including Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato. Our classes have about 12-20 people and we have a Socratic-style discussion method. Our core values and some of the questions we seek to answer in my school are Virtue, Human Nature, The Purpose of Life, and What does a prosperous, well-ordered life look like? More families should be aware of Homeschooling and Classical Liberal arts schools.

As a 16 year old, I don’t see many of my fellow peers seeing how beneficial trade really is. This change helps me see a future for my generation.

As a "high school" teacher from Germany I can say that we have never abandoned that system of giving our graduates a direct path to vocational training after year 9/10. My former students are now car mechanics (and own their own garage and business), they are managers of supermarkets, nurses, keep production lines running for the world's largest manufacturer of contact lenses etc. We need well educated "blue collar" workers. Both our countries do.

A school like this would’ve been great for someone like me… a kid that learns by doing, not reading about doing. This would be life changing for so many kids!

I didn't realize my high school was a rarity. My high school allowed you to pick what life track you wanted to go down. If it was vocational, then they had programs that would teach you a trade or skil, and you graduated with your certification or all the hours worked to get certified. You also had the college track which allowed you to be dual enrolled in the local community colleg, so when you took college classes you would get actual college credit. So people where graduating with 2 years of college credits for free that they could transfer to a four year college. Lastly, they had the ROTC track for students who wanted to go into the military. It was pretty amazing

I was a special-needs kid, and the most I remember from public school was the years of teachers and kids bullying me. Homeschooling would've better help me accept being different, and not internalize that "I'm weird, and everyone else is normal."
