This week's Azure Infrastructure Update. A lot of changes and a mini look at Azure Bicep, a new way to create declarative configuration for Azure compared to ARM JSON templates. Lots of new capabilities around security, monitoring and more covered.

Note - I'm a bit under the weather this week so little tongue tied, back to normal next week :-D

Wonder if the Azure Bicep name was John's idea...

Thanks John, for another great update video. By the way, where do you find room for your t-shirt collection ? :)

As much as I wanted a proper DSL for ARM.. The ease of onboarding OS Logs into Monitor is going to be helpful!

Hey John,
Awesome updates as usual.

Template Spec is also out, although through invites at this stage. It’s pretty neat!

Azure Bicep... I am just not sold. I talked with the team on it. I really don't like the idea of needing to supply the API version for each provider. Just do it like Terraform and have a version of the provider that is used with the version of the API.

I think there is some great opportunity here before there are some gaps in Terraform, like the looping constructs... they're very klunky, at best. Also, some idea of real "splatting" needs to come to this. You might have multiple objects that you define (like Subnets) and one version doesn't use a property and another does (like PrivateLink). Splatting could make that possible without having to develop conditional statements.
