Dolores O'Riordan wrote Zombie in memory of Johnathan Ball age 3 and Tim Parry age 12, who were killed on the way to buy Mother's Day cards for their mothers, and of the 54 others who were injured in the 1993 IRA bombings in Warrington, England. I believe she was costumed in such a way and sang with such a wailing voice to represent the sound of their two families bain sidhe's (banshees) wailing in grief for their dead children...

Bear in mind that she is singing in memory of the children of the "other side" (British) whilst proclaiming to the IRA that her family was not a part of the IRA's terrorism or in agreement with it "but you see it's not me. It's not my family in your head." This song is a rejection of violence and murder for the solving of political problems. WHAT'S IN YOUR HEAD???😭

When Tim’s parents Colin and Wendy Parry visited Ireland soon after the bombing as part of a BBC's Panorama program, the Irish people took to the streets of Dublin to follow them, hug them and tell them "what happened to your son Tim and the young boy Jonathan was not in my name!"

Thanks for your reaction. The conflict wasn't necessarily a civil war. It was in the sense that the Unionists wanted to remain in the United Kingdom and the Nationalists wanted to secede and be independent. What made it different than a typical civil war is that the British military fought on the side of the unionists. Unfortunately, nothing has really been solved despite all of the casualties.

2 boys were killed. Verse 1 is about boy 1 who was killed instantly.
Verse 2 is about boy 2 who was on life support and his mother making the decision to pull the plug.
