Make Your Own Impulse Response for Waves IR-1, IR-L, and IR-360 Convolution Reverb

This is my first attempt at making an impulse response to use with my Waves IR-L Convolution Reverb Plugin. Note: You'll need to use IR-1 or IR-360 to create the .wir file (demo versions also available). Recorded in studio A at Aire Born Studios in Indianapolis.

Instructions from the Waves site:
Here are step by step instructions to make your own IR:
- Play your sweep file supplied on the CD and also downloadable from the Waves website (a 15 second sweep followed by 10 seconds of silence) through speakers in the room to be captured.
- Record the result with 1 or more microphones to 1 or more tracks.
- Create a new folder (We'll name it "My Sweeps") inside your "IR1Impulses V2".
folder, where the plug-in searches for new IRs.
- Put your recorded sweep files inside your new "My Sweeps" folder.
- Load the IR-1 or IR-360; Press Import Sweep Response From File
- Guide the browser to the "My Sweeps" folder.
- Load the .wav files one by one as you are prompted by the plug-in.
- After some calculations, an Impulse Response .wir file will be automatically
saved next to your sweep files in the "My Sweeps" folder.
- To save this new IR as a preset, press Save, then select Save to New File.
- Navigate to the "My Sweeps" folder.
- Reload the IR-1 or IR-360; The new preset will appear in the load menu.
- Congratulations! You have created a new IR! You may now optionally delete the
recorded sweep files from the "My Sweeps" folder.

I had no idea you could do this with IR1!! Thanks so much for the clear tutorial on how you made your impulse response, that was super helpful

Got this plugin as part of a bundle recently. This is the first video I watched about it and I know everything I need to know about it now. Looks amazing, there's a huge bridge near my house I'm going to capture the sound of now, happy days!! Thanks for sharing!

Since they are wav format, you could combine all those separate room captures together in Audacity etc…..
create a complete room capture of all mics mixed together.

I would set the send level of the kick lower so it just makes a little tine tiny bit reverb for the kick.

You are supposed to place your speakers where your source instrument would be, and your microphones where you would normally place them to record that instrument. The way you did it was like if the drummer was sitting by the window and the microphones in a weird position in relation to the drums. That's why the response sounds heavier in one of the channels. And that's also why products like MiR from Vienna Symphonic Library have more than 6, 000 impulse responses recorded for a single room (so you get the right response according to where you are placing a virtual instrument in the virtual room along with where you are placing the virtual microphones in MiR).

Any reason / advantage to using 2 Ns10’s to pump the sound in there instead of one ??

Good day! Can You explain the process of impulse response creation of acoustic violin? Like what to do with the instrument? What should I record and what plugins should I use? Big Thank You in advance!

Please, how do I convert the .wir to a .wav? My DAW doesn't support a .wir file. Thank you.

I did all this and the files are not visible. Is there a special frequency, format, or suffix for them to be visible in the waves IR player? Are you sure they can be viewable in the light version or can you only do custom IRs in the larger Waves IR version? Also, just found a sweep frequency from Waves, and this may imply that the IR player is expecting the impulse to be the WAVES sweep frequency impulse downloaded from Waves? I used a real snare drum as the impulse, and edited out the first part of the impulse having only the ambience of the snare rendered to a new file, and placed into the DATA impulse folder, but it doesn't show up. Its a *.wav file.

Are your mics directional or combinations of directional and omnidirectional? No issues whith sound bouncing off the glass, walls, ceiling? Sorry, I'm new to this but I do find it fascinating and always eager to learn.

Thanks for the resources and video! Not sure but wouldn't NS10s effect the sweeps frequencies because they have response which isn't flat?

Too complicated. I use EASY CONVOLVER FREE. Its Great! Or FOG convolver.
