in their defense, there's not much more you CAN do with steve as far as live action goes. which is exactly why i did NOT want a live action minecraft movie.

Hear me out, this is what the plot should have been:

Steve and Alex are just normally living their lives, gathering materials. But unfortunately, the minecraft gods (Beings of the Aether realm) find out about steve and alex's existence. They aren't supposed to be alive. They were supposed to die with the ancient builders. And the minecraft gods want steve and alex dead, or it would cause a timeline breaking event. So they hire a multiversally known assassin (herobrine, played by Alex Hirsch) to kill alex and steve. Meanwhile, alex is mining away when she discovers structures made by the ancient builders, along with a broken nether portal. The movie would show them surviving herobrine and trying to figure out the secrets of the ancient builders, and why theres a strange portal with a few eyes in it...
(Oh and everything is animated like the minecraft trailers)

I’m more worried for its similarities with borderlands. The original game has a unique art style that would have looked great in animation. They hired popular celebrity, comedic actors for it, and it seems like the plot will be different from what is actually in the game

I do have to agree: for a live action movie, the mobs look pretty much how I expected them to look. The real problem goes back to the decision to make it live action in the first place.

They should have gone the Lego movie way, or even better the Batman Lego. Instead of using Steve and Alex, take a good random story and fit it into Minecraft aesthetics and looks. It wouldn't disturb anything which is canon, allows the writers some creative liberty and at least won't upset anyone.

What the plot should have been: Four people wake up on an island, with no clue of who they are. They punch down some trees, make boats, and hit the mainland. Then they just play Minecraft. Building a base, fighting mobs, mining, stuff like that. They meet Steve, who tells them about a mysterious dimension called 'The nether.' The nether is played like a horror movie. They escape, with powder and eyes. One day underground, they find a Stronghold, and accidentallyake an ender eye. They fill up the portal, and jump in. Either a cliffhanger, or Steve sacrifices himself to kill the Dragon. Took me 10 minutes. They probably had years for this shit lol
