I recently bought a black one. Since it slightly sinks it not only doesn't give top water action but it catches the pads and floating grass. I almost threw it in the garbage but then I pulled the hook out from the rear. You can snip off the weight and throw it on a BFS reel. Doing this transforms the lure. Constant little pops and you would swear it's a real spider coming at you. It's not an accurate caster but tons of distance using light line since a good BFS reel can cast even 1-2 gram lures far.
Remove the weight, use a good BFS reel and on a calm day the legs ripple the water. It's actually a good, fun lure when modded.

There are about 700 turtles in that pond you missed the hooksets on. Wonder if those were actually turtle strikes.
