I'm Not Convinced Horizon Makes Sense As A Lego Game | Hands-On Preview

I'm just not convinced that Horizon Zero Dawn is an ideal choice to adapt to the Lego-game formula.

Having now played about an hour of Lego Horizon Adventures, it feels like a game with great ideas that are restricted by the IP it's based on. I love the world of Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, but the opening hour of Lego Horizon often feels like its setting and characters are clashing with the comedic creativity and gameplay loop that so many Lego games excel at. The opening hour of Lego Horizon feels like a pretty decent start to what's hopefully a good game--at the very least, it's shaping up to be my favorite Lego game in terms of visuals--but there are moments where I could see the kid-friendly vibe of the Lego games conflicting with the more adult-oriented storylines of Horizon.

Its ironic, reviewers that grew up with the classic LEGO games (1995-2005) spent the last 20 years complaining about the Tt LEGO games not innovating past their formula. Fast-forward to 2024 and reviewers that grew up with Tt's LEGO games want new LEGO games to stick to the formula that Tt created.

I never understand why Lego games never went all on on the diorama of it all. Lego games should have embraced the look of a kid playing Legos like using house hold items at set pieces. Environments should have felt like a kid reenacting their favorite movie in their backyard. There is such a deep bucket of creativity that Lego games have failed to capitalize on.

I can remember the whole story of the original horizon: zero dawn. This looks nice but doesn't feel like it captures even half of the feel.

It looks rlly fun and cool to me, kids will like robot animals, and HZD fans will like playing HZD in a different less serious format
