The 1016 is a beauty. Have a 36mm 114270 and since I got it it's become my everyday watch. Looks good and sits so comfortable on the wrist. Have a few vintage and modern Omegas but none of them get any wrist time now. That's how good the Explorer is.

0:35 But that is wrong. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay did not wear a Rolex while summiting the Everest, they wore a Smiths. Rolex themselves apologized for the "confusion".

I read a very interesting article on rolexpassionreport about Sit Edmund Hillary’s Explorer II 1655 - the same model owned by, issued to and climbed in by the Great Reinhold Messner (among with Heinrich Harrer) probably my dream Rolex but way too much for.me - a shame Rolex don’t scrap the unsightly later models of the Ex2 and reintroduce this design minus the Merc hands etc

"The famed Rolex the reach the summit of Mt. Everest in 1953 arrived at the hands of Sir Edmund Hillary." No. He wore a Smiths watch. Not a Rolex. He left his Rolex on basecamp at the day he summited Everest. It was just marketing and smart copywriting that made everyone assume Edmund wore his Rolex Oyster Perpetual on the summit of Everest. His Sherpa wore the Rolex, but EDMUND HILLARY DIDN'T WEAR HIS ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL AT THE SUMMIT OF MT. EVEREST. I can't believe it's 2019 and people still believe and still misinform everyone. Even a watch channel like this miseducates people and continues to spread this assumption. I'm disappointed, Bob's Watches. Much more, people still believe he wore a Rolex Explorer which as you said in the video, it was made after he summited Everest.
