0:00 - The search began in Taiwan
1:26 - Here is the hardware
2:58 - The pickups from Taiwan
3:40 - The motherboard is WEIRD!
6:37 - The cooler is NEW
8:40 - Quick motherboard test
10:14 - 2 days later
12:46 - I had to modify the cooler
13:49 - FINALLY building the PC!
14:48 - Powering it up

Amazing! Who needs RTX 4090 when you can have a FX 5200 with Sound Blaster Live! 😅

to 16:52:
Quake 3 Arena (that's the one I see on the desktop), works absolutely fine on Windows 11, even though it was released 1999.
don't forget to set your max FPS to 125 to jump higher and farther.

Gear Seekers : damn man....this is your best video ever made !!!! It brings up so much memories from the era that I've started building PC-s. My first personal rig was Intel Celeron 333 MHz (OC-d to 450 MHz on stock SLOT1 converted cooler), ABIT BX6 motherboard, 128 MB SDR PC 133 MHz, Hercules 3D Prophet 3D-FX Voodoo 2 12 MB PCI + Diamond Monster 3D II 3D-FX Voodoo 2 12 MB PCI (SLI bridged with that IDE cable looking cable) + 2D card ATI Rage Pro 4MB AGP 2x....all on my first CRT monitor Nokia 17" Flatron with 85 Hz of refresh rate and 1280x1024 resolution.

The first time that I've played Unreal 1....I literally cried at that 2.nd level waterfall !!!! At that moment I knew that a new era of 3D Trilinear rendering has started and that nothing will ever be the same....only better :). Quake 1 botmatch was my playground for LAN Party training and so was later on Unreal Tournament 1 (which was simply better than Quake 3 for me), Half Life 1 broke the reality records back in 1998 which I've played on my first 3D-FX Voodoo 1 4MB PCI that I've quickly replaced with my dual Voodoo 2 setup....man those were 2 decades of ultra fast game changing scenery in which you had to buy a new GPU every year to even be able to play certain new games due to DX 5, DX 6, DX 7, DX 8, DX 8.1 and DX 9.0 a/b/c limitations.

When Crysis 1 launched in 2007 (with Crysis 1 Warhead in 2008), then the first great stoppage occurred in terms of graphical progression....and stayed almost stagnant till 2015.

Did something similar with a Pop Silent case. Fractal changed the game when they brought the optical drive bay back

woah Nick. that 3D Mark benchmark triggered memories of me watching my elder brother running benchmarks when I was a small little kid. He used to salvage PCs from family members, schools, etc and use whatever is best.

great video as usual! ❤

So many younger gamers have no knowledge of how many DOS games were absolute masterpieces of their time. I've often told my kids I wished there was a way they could know what the years I grew up in were like. Then I chuckle because I know they'll feel the same one day.

That looks amazing. PC games on a CD are just amazing. I remember getting my C&C in a physical format. No patches and no updates are required. The product/piece of art was finished and ready to go.

Imagine, if you had to listen song that has not all words or melody written to it. Or food that has to be cooked whilst you are still eating eat. Let's be honest we need quality PC games to return to physical format.

I love this! That’s the era I started gaming in and then stopped until recently when I found my passion for building pc’s again.

Ahhh, this takes me right back to the early 00s. PC hardware and software of that era have that distinct look and feel. Brings back fond memories.

Back in late 2019/20 I did a P4 retro build. The fun was in the researching, the hunting for parts, the frustrations of retro hardware and software, the successes, failures, everything. Glad I did it but I'm happier that I've had my fill of retro PC gaming and definitively moved on.

Quite the blast from the past! Something you might try is Freespace 2, a game from 1999 that is still in development today. Take an original Freespace 2 install on your Windows 98SE box running in VGA or SVGA and compare it with a fully upgraded Freespace 2 running on a modern box and modern GPU.

Well, I have a "retro PC": ATX case from ~1999/2000's, that "boring beige" with translucent blueish plastic parts, mobo+CPU+RAM+DVD drive from 2012, VGA, PSU and HDD replaced latter because the 2012 ones failed, the only "modernity" added is a SATA SSD. 😜
