I think now would be a plant retailers opportunity to explore other genera than aroids and hoya! The Plant World could use some more fun oddballs😊 there's so much more for the plant hobbyist out there to learn about! Shout out to tissue culture for not only Making plants more available but also its potential for saving endangered species from Extinction🎉

I really appreciate you on so many levels! I’m glad you did this video as it is giving me, I think, a better understanding of maybe why Planterina stopped shipping plants. Although their prices were very upended for most of their products, I would purchase more from them because I knew I could trust their quality of products and their plants always arrived without any issues at all! Sometimes the best plants are paid for by the entire package, not just the plant, ya know what I mean? I thank you again and I am so sorry to have seen Planterina plant sales go bye-bye

Seeing what happens on the “inside” of the plant world is super interesting to me. Thank you.

After getting into the hobby back in March knowing almost nothing of anything or the plant bubble I’ve become obsessed with it.
My speculation is that a lot of these wide variety of rare plants won’t be found in the next few years as no large operations will grow them or slow it down to drive up the cost a bit.
I’m Canada I can find a lot you mentioned twice the size for half the price ( which shouldn’t be the case lol) . I’ve talked to some larger nurseries and they are going to slowly go back to the staple plants and outdoor stuff again.

I think people will pay premium for a premium looking eye catching
plants but the days of premium $ for average looking ones no matter how rare are mostly gone for a while. Look for new opportunities outside just waiting for clients.
Example: My group insurance benefits plan includes a new wellness expense. I made a $1500 therapy room with rare plants, waterfall, lights for stress reduction all claimed but I also would have paid some to do it as well as a package. 6 others are doing it after seeing my room.
The above might sound crazy speculation but I also invested in rare whisky 15-20 years ago for not much. It’s now worth a large down payment on a house. Also bought liquidated commercial gym equipment right before covid.

Keep rocking it you have awesome looking plants man!

I'm also retailing plants. I imported and propagated and resold. In 2023 alone I spent about $20k and I sold for several times that amount. I'm in Canada; shipping is much more expensive but the plants are not priced as high as in the US. There are a few huge losses I made on individual plants, of course, but overall, it can't be all that bad.

I just found your channel. So glad I did. I didn’t know you were taking a break from making videos. But I’m happy to see you didn’t quit. You have so much knowledge.
But still, when are you coming to the Pacific Northwest? Northern Washington state has zero good plant shops. They have a great whole sale shop. Waiting on you to come so I can purchase.

I probably spent a similar amount on my collection, but don’t regret a thing (other than moving into an HOA). Because mine were bought for me, not a shop, I am just now to the point where I’m selling to make room for the next acquisition. I’m positioned for a nice run with dark anthuriums. The trend will skew to the variegated versions, but I’m not as interested in them. This was a nice view for people to see the reality of what large collections can cost.

Another great video! I love your content! Glad you were able to get some rest and take a break from YouTube.
Somehow.. I didn’t really start getting into collecting until this year. I am thankful for the price drop because I would only be looking at a handful opposed to my little 100 plant collection. 😂

Such is with the plant industry… plants are growing things so once someone buys they can grow it out and sell a piece thus competing with the original seller. Eventually it does bring down the price of luxury plants especially. And also because they are growing, people have finite space and cannot keep taking in more plants like they did during the pandemic. I went from one or two plants to 60 and no longer after more. I’m a hobby seller maybe selling 50/month. Just to offset the cost of the hobby but I can’t imagine trying to make a living with it

Fascinating! I only got seriously into plants early this year and I’m very much enjoying the pricing slump. Maybe I’ll be lucky and make a bit of money off my props if prices go back up a bit in a couple years.

I'm a plant guru myself but I'm paranoid of online ordering of anything. That said you being honest and open ima check your stuff out. I need an albo and a monkey tail for my collection lol their like the plant porn holy grail for my autistic hillbilly ass. Id rather purchase expensiveish plants in person but central Appalachia isn't the place to find house plants. Our native forest is an all you can eat overly diverse buffet but houseplants not so much lol.

I would personally be v interested in buying Hoyas and Begonias from you if you ever started diversifying your collection more! So far I’ve only bought a few and have had bad luck with them 😂 I need some Pretty In Green branded care content to go with the new interests please 😂😇🤞
