How Boat Controls Are Connected To An Outboard.

In this video I answer a question I got a ton from my remote steering video, “how are the controls connected to the motor?” In this video I show my friends boat setup and how all the cables are connected. Hope this helps! Please don’t hesitate to comment any questions.

Also, if you like boats and want to follow my most recent boat project, and keep getting boat info, please like, and subscribe to my channel. I’ll be posting more videos soon about building my jetboat, and general water/boating knowledge and information that I think will help people be better boaters, and be safe on the water.

***Teleflex steering cable and helm mount link below. Pick any key way boat steering wheel. Make sure it isn’t the splined ones.***

***Throttle/shift cables for evinrude/Johnson. Measure the distance of where you want to route your cables and order the length you need accordingly or you’ll have excess cable and it won’t shift/throttle as smooth as it could. You don’t want any sharp kinks or turns in it.*** (link is for 17’ which is probably longer than most people need)

I got my two cables from Amazon, but the seller isn’t selling them anymore so this is pretty much the same thing. If the ends don’t work for your boat, don’t stress. They thread off, and you can replace them with the correct ones. (These should work fine though if you have a Johnson or evinrude.)

Finally a Quality video that answers my questions on how the running gear is attached to an older Johnson outboard that formerly was a tiller set up. Great video

I'm doing a similar setup with a Rude 18hp and same console. Really helped seeing the cable connections to the motor.

Great information. I just picked up an old boat that was stick steering and all that stuff was removed. But has the same motor on it. Now I see how easy it will be to reconnect it to how it came from the factory.

Thanks for the video! I have a 59’ Johnson 35hp with the exact same shifter. Do you happen to have a video or know where I can find one of how to wire the ignition? I hooked mine up the the battery and the motor and it doesn’t do anything and I want to make sure it is hooked up correctly.

I wish the piece on the end was threaded on....it's actually held on by the Silver pin at that that silver clip is attached to and it's pressed on.

Where can you get that throttle cable, gear cable, and steering cable? I have a 14' MirroCraft that has an 85 Johnson 25HP tiller control pull start motor. I don't mind the pull start, but due to back issues, I want to build a console and be able to run the boat from that.

Anyone have a link for the cable brackets? Can’t seem to find a listing anywhere.

Do you have a picture or video of your dual-handle remote control disassembled so you can see how the cables connect inside?

I think I have that exact same shifter… how did you hook up the cables in there? Existing was just inner cables (wire) my new cables have the eyes on them like yours… do you somehow take that off to expose just the wire? Needing help
