Australian roads sound inviting. Here we hold the go pedal down and honk and flash the high beams. The IQ is inversely proportional to the number of honks or flashes. USA. Probably anywhere. Doesn't matter which lane you're in. They'll teach you a lesson. Just have a bumper with spikes on the front for when they brake check ya.

Space saver, never again.
Friday night flat between braidwood and bungedore, Winter, 10pm. 45kt winds snow, sleet. Unpack the snow gear, space saver fitted, then the 80kph trip to Cooma. So much fun, what a great night.
Bought a full size spare the following week.

JC, very happy owner of a CX9, procured it with the help of some whacko on YouTube. It's worth adding to your concerns about the space saver in the CX9 that there is a restriction on distance (200km) AND where you can put it. My owner's manual tells me the space saver has to go on the rear. So if you puncture a front, you have to jack up the rear, take a rear off and replace with the space saver, whack it back down on the ground and jack up the front to put the rear you just removed on to that corner. Highly impractical, and I suspect beyond most average users. And as you allude, the full size punctured tyre requires most of the boot, which just might not be available. I have a full size spare that I take with us when we are towing the Shitois. It can live in the boot as there is no luggage load when the crap is all in the Shitois. This covers us for being long distances from a tyre shop and/ore trying to cover large distances in a day without undue delay and/or travelling on public holidays when a tyre shop is not open. And guess what, as a normal nine-to-fiver, public holidays are when we tend to travel. Space savers are the most impractical, cynical work-of-the-devil idea that I am convinced should actually be called "cost savers". It's just as well the car is so good in most other areas.

I'm with you about cars with spacesaver wheels and then even worse is the pump kits. I don't understand why they are available here in Australia. I did have one car with a spacesaver (a 94 Nissan Bluebird) which I used once, luckily I was only about 50k from the next town on a B Grade Road (Bruce Highway hehe) between Townsville and Ayr. Had my puncture fixed at the first opportunity at Ayr.

Talking about space savers, i came across a mate with a flat tyre on his porsche twin turbo 996. It had a space saver, but luckily i had a old dog blanket in my old commodore, to wrap his 300/45- 18 flat tyre in to put in the passenger seat to drive home 😅😂

The other thing about the 2022 Outlander PHEV is it's a much better car. Surprisingly nimble, nice suspension setup and the biggest EV only range PHEV out there. Having owned one since 2014, plugging it in each evening is not difficult (although my one is nowhere near as good as the current model). It becomes a habit quite quickly. I did keep it garaged most of the time which made it easy to plug in.

Ford Territory wheels compliment any exceptionally long tray... It's just a fact John. Get with the program, dude.

Carnival - space saver spare and the flat tyre gets to travel inside the cabin with all the kids.

Hopefully no leakage from the a-noos... (Not that there is anything wrong with that, apparently.)
Thanks again J.C. You are the DJ Khaled with "another one"

For me it's the new Outlander and the Outlander PHEV, both great value for money and for it's class, they both have the best packaging.

I'll throw some love to the PHEV too. Brilliant car - Used to own one before buying some mediocracy. To be picky at "John's" research; the spec sheet for the new PHEV makes it look like it is still a Mitsubishi!

Space saver is the marketing term for cost saver.
Which begs the question, what do they cost? Only your life.

I can't see me buying a new car and replacing my old Pajero NT anytime soon. I just don't know what the government is going to change as far as the laws go

Hi John, I'm a fan of the Sorento Sport+ diesel but not convinced about the DCT gearbox? I love the look of the 2023 Palisade Elite - diesel has TC gearbox.

I agree with you Mr Cadogen that the 3rd row of the outlander is kind of crap, you also didnt mention that the glove box is also compromised as the like most french vehicles they can be bothered with moving the fuse box over. Funny enough Mitsubishi has a 7 seater in its lineup that more suited to that breeder lifestyle, its called the Xpander and its not offered in the market cause Australian sensibilities and pockets are very hugh and will not be bothered with such value for money vehicles lol

Hi John. Thanks for the great report. I am in the market for a 7 seater too for my family of 6. So would the sorento or the santa fe be appropriate as a daily driver i.e 3rd being used on a daily basis. Thanks
