Bought a nice mahogany (almost walnut finish) "stop sign" badge era Gretsch kit from Gary Forkham at the old Fork's Drum Closet at least 20 years ago. Thin shells, die cast hoop on all the toms. All stock. However, this was when Gretsch used the old ball & socket type tom months. Tom mounts meant drilling good size hole into the shells. Not good. This didn't last long thankfully, so Gretsch developed a better mounting system in the late 70s/early 80s. My drums still sound incredible. Got a great deal on them at the time. I could not afford a set of Gretsch drums today...whew, talking about sticker shock! 😮

For me, it started when I was 12 years old and heard Tony back in the early 70's. Oh there's other drums that sound 'good', but why settle for good when you have 'great' in Gretsch USA. Not the imports folks, only USA.
