Server 2008 Lesson 8 - Configuring DHCP for IPv4

In this lesson I install the DHCP role on the Primary Domain Controller in my network. I setup the scope to include the proper DNS address, Gateway address, and a range of IP addresses appropriate for the network. After the installation and configuration of the DHCP role I verify the settings by starting up a client pc to see if it received the DHCP scope options.

you are talking about physical pc (running windows7), i've been following the step by step tutorials from the beginning and it worked well. Even thought i don't have a switch i'm running the two servers on my virtual machine and things are ok, but will the new pc (of course running on my virtual machine ask for ip address?

hello sir, Ive been following your videos and they'v been real helpful. so far since i came to this vid i have a problem validating the dns sever ipv4 address. I currently get the error "dns server at the specific ip address is not responding". I configured the ipv4 setting exactly as you instructed. Been tryin to figure this out for 2 days :(

yes, you will see the settings for DHCP be passed to a computer that is requesting them, like the client in Lesson 9. The servers I setup both had static IP addresses so the DHCP will do little for them, but on the Windows 7 computer I let it take the DHCP address. On the Windows 7 computer type "ipconfig /all" (w/o quotes) in the command prompt to see the setting set to your local area connection.

I have question about this training, How do you configure the IP address on the router? I am setting up my home network follow. I have Arris modem (wowway default gateway 192.168.0.1 ) connect to my Cisco 1841 Router then I connect from Cisco router to my Cisco switch; therefore, I connect my Windows Server 2008 r2 and my PC to the switch. On my Windows Server I configure DHCP into Windows Server to broadcast IP Address to my PC, my question is. Do I need to configure scope range to match my default gate way? How about my Cisco router? How to configure on the Cisco Router?

I have my server sitting behind a wireless router what setup inside of the wireless router needs to be done? I understand you turn off the DHCP in the router but what ports or IP's need to be set inside of the router so that you can get through to the server out side of your network and have an FTP site going? I can setup my serer DHCPand all but not sure what needs to be done to the router.

only after setting up the configurations on my PC1 from lesson 9, then only I will be able to see all the info what I see in lesson 8 in client computer(ipconfig) is that right ?

I just realised the after setting up test server that i have installed the foundation version of windows 2008 rather than standard. Will this cause any problems

I have an issue where my workstations are not recognizing my SVR-1 as the dhcp server. instead it still thinks that the router is the dhcp even though I just configured SVR-1 to be the dhcp server. please help!

Hello Sir, i would like to if i setup my windows server 2008 r2 to be DC, run AD, DNS and DHCP and for hence this server is the one that provide ip's to the computers if i have some visitors that need to access internet in my office and they are not clients that are joined the domain, how can they access the internet ? if they are not have an account in the DC ? Can you or someone else explain me this please

So when you refer to your "router" in your network topology, you mean a TRUE router (1 in 1 out) not a consumer router with a built in switch and wireless access point and built in DHCP server etc etc etc. (Obviously you could use a consumer "router" and disable all those things, but for my sanity's sake you ARE referring to the former, not the latter, correct?)

Hi  Sir I already setup a new virtual machine Windows 7(Client). I also  install the DHCP server on my  Server but s windows 7(client) still cant get a dynamic address . i also set  a static IP 192.168.1.3 but still no luck. :(
