Yes it is in development. It's called the 'Rods of God' weapon system. But no, it wouldn't be as powerful as that. The idea is to use a telephone pole sized projectile made of a super dense material called tungsten. You would launch it to earth from space, and the speed that it would pick up would impact generation an explosion roughly equivalent to a smaller yield nuclear weapon, but with none of the radiation after effects.

Yeah everyone is cool with London getting leved in this movie. But when Metropolis doesn't even get that destroyed compared to this scean nobody says shit. This was worse than Metropolis!!!

Well not always, it was Paris in Armageddon. Sometimes i've seen Moscow in a similar situation, and actually it was the first i saw London destroyed in a fiction.
i like London, but i think this scene is impressive and beautiful, it's just a movie dude. Oh and btw an horrible and dumb movie (except for this scene and the one in the mountain), you're right about that one.
