Have the same issue, difference is, my iPhone xs max doesn't stay on that reset screen before the 'iPhone software update' complete on iTunes. The software update is 5.93 GB. I get so frustrated because it takes so long then it end up saying error. I Need help.

I did exactly what you did and it worked and says it's extracting software but then my iPhone turned back on showing its disabled ? Will the factory reset still work even tho it turned on and is no longer showing the restore sign on the screen ?
