Edit 1: would consider it as sand, as only sand is used to make it. Unlike TNT, where other things are used.

Edit 2: I can see that this comment has become extremely Controversial, this is Just my Opinion. I really don’t care if it’s not *actually* sand, I’m saying that To craft sandstone, you use 4 blocks of sand. Nothing else. So, it’s technically sand.
