The early morning air. I distinctly remember, when I was about 4-5 years old, every morning my parents would come into my room at about 6 AM and get me out of bed while I was still sleeping/half asleep from the movement, carry me out to the car, and bring me to a friend's house to get ready for school because they both worked very early morning shifts at a local factory. Every time I smell the early morning air between 5-7 AM roughly, it hits me. The air just smells different then. Any later and the dew is starting to evaporate, earlier and it just smells... A little different, I don't know how to explain it. It's a good smell though. Comforting even without the nostalgia.

The smell of the central heating unit at the start of winter tells me Christmas is near.
Cinnamon reminds me of my grandmother's kitchen.
Creosote on new phone polls reminds me of the log ride @ 6 Flags Over Tx.
The sweat of a cigar smoker. My father didn't use it, so I only smelled it a the annual reunion.

The smell of old propane powered refrigerators...

Forklifts has the same smell, and it always reminds me of the months I spent as a camp counselor in my teens at a scout camp. 😊

We had a Spencer's Gifts in the mall when I was a teenager. I loved the smell in there. The candles, the incense all combined to make the most heavenly scent. I can remember that smell and it immediately takes me back to my teenage years in the early 70's. As soon as I got babysitting money my mom and I would pile in the car and head to Spencer's.

In Australia there's Kirks brand soft drinks like Creaming soda, pasito, lemon squash and Kolé Beer. The smells of these coupled with white vinegar and chicken salt takes me back to when I was 6-8 years old eating fish and chips with my dad when I would spend weekends with him at his house.

Sadly, I don't know exactly what the smell is but I know it takes me back to my childhood when I smell it. When I was very young, 6 or 7 years old (now 61) we used to have family summer holidays with an old aunt and uncle who lived on the east coast of England. In their garden, there was a particularly aromatic plant, which I never smelled anywhere else. Fast forward 40 or 50 years, and for various reasons, I was in the staff garden behind a local supermarket. I caught the same smell, and I was instantly back in my aunt and uncle's cottage garden. I can't even describe the smell, and I can only vaguely remember what the plant looked like, but I know if I ever smell it again, I will recognise it in an instant.

There is a candle that they carry at Dollar general called stolen hoodie it smells like men's cologne and a non smelly natural body odor so it smells like an actual hoodie that has been worn whenever I smell it it reminds me of my older brother and his cologne that he wore as a teenager and early twenties I lost him a few years ago to him taking his own life.

The smell of wild thyme and the smell of a tent. I live in new zealand and we used to go to central otago the really hot section of the country every year to go camping, the area is like a dessert with hills and a lot of while thyme grows around the area and it makes me tear up every time I smell it

Rotting seaweed = my home town of Summerside, Prince Edward Island. Smells like salty farts. I grew up six blocks from the Atlantic so I knew this smell very well.

Pencil shavings and unbleached paper = my Grade 1 classroom. We had all these huge rolls of cheap unbleached paper that we could use as much of as we wanted.

That's how you do this kid thing right, IMHO.

Engine grease and carburetor cleaner. I grew up in an auto shop and those smells always remind me of my dad.

The smell of Brooklyn and The Bronx burning in the 70's! When I was a kid, we'd go from where we lived on Long Island into Queens to visit relatives, and you could literally tell you were in The City by the smell. Sadly, many things that once had specific smells no longer do. e.g. doctors offices; the glue (paste) they'd give us in school; The street and sidewalk after a summer rain at night; dittos; girl's hair... Yet farts still smell!
