I am getting so tired of video game adaptation being “main character travels to other world (be it from the game world to the real world or the real world to the game world)” can we just have an adaptation where everything is in the game world where the main characters dont have to constantly go “whoa this is crazy that this is happening” when something from the games happening

Minecraft storymode is not good… but at least it understood the assignment. It was a story made USING Minecraft. Everyone is from Minecraft, so there was rarely those cringey wink wink jokes about the mechanics.

Idk, I wish they had done something more like that than the movie we’re actually getting.

The difference between that Mario scene and the minecraft movie's entire runtime is that the Mario movie scene was done as a way to not just hammer in references, but to build up the mushroom kingdom as its own strange unique world, while also showing visual gags. Only really works in that one small dose, but it was done well. If you overdo it, it just feels crowbared in.

At least, that's my perspective.

"Minecraft Story Mode" had a good idea going. The characters live in the world, everything makes sense to them, and the story part is about the lore of old builder heroes. It's not good but it's not a bad isekai disaster.

2:22 that scene does derive comedy from video game mechanics, but not in a wink wink kinda way. It’s just genuine world building. I mean it’s Mario getting from point A to point B with difficulty, but it’s not like he’s constantly saying what is this crazy place. I mean it’s just slapstick in a Mario world. No winking at the camera or anything, he’s just traversing the kingdom.
