How to reset your Dyson Small Ball™ vacuum's brush bar

How to clear and reset the brush bar on your Dyson Small Ball upright vacuum cleaner.

The brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something jams it. Once you've checked the cleaner head for any obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brush bar, you should be able to reset your machine.

Please note, the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright. Make sure you recline the machine into the normal vacuuming position before testing it.

Step 1. Lay the machine back without reclining it.
Step 2. Release the red latch and remove the cleaner head.
Step 3. Pivot the red levers outwards and swing the baseplate open.
Step 4. WARNING: Beware of sharp objects when clearing obstructions.
Step 5. Remove all debris from the brush bar.
Step 6. Swing the baseplate shut.
Step 7. Pivot both levers back into position, ensuring the baseplate is secure.
Step 8. Lower the front of the machine onto the cleaner head ensuring it clicks in place.

Good thing there is a video cos I don’t think I could have managed to cut a piece of string without it

The little red clip that holds the head on doesn't just "click" into place on mine like shown in the video. I have to lay the vacuum down and manually, forcefully push the clip upward (against the arrow) in order to click it into place. Once I do it seems to hold fine.

My DC 50 brush starts spinning but then stops. We have taken it apart and cleaned it but it still starts than stops. The brush rolls freely easily when taken out. It moves when it is on but when you turn it on it stops after a few seconds, turn it off and on again and it starts spinning and shuts off in a couple of seconds. What's up?

The bottom part keeps coming off. It’s new and clean. Have to put it back on about 4 times every time I vacuum. I’ve never seen this with any other Dyson. It’s the Animal 3 model. Please advise. Thanks.

Can't see or view the bottom SCREW PLATE..as you had missed that part of Removal..I need to see where the Screws all Align uP cheers

Hi can the roller come away at all to get cleaned properly? Mine isn’t moving at the mo and not sure what to do 🤷🏽‍♀️

cleaned beater bar .. replaced the switch.. beater bar still wont turn .. does the beater bar have a belt or motor.. HELP!!!

I have a up20... Beater bar quite, cleaned as shown, replaced beater bar switch .. Still doesnt spin what did i miss

This happened to me when my Dyson was three years old. The official Dyson service shop in North Hollywood California said that the computer panel that connects button with roller is fried. They have to order part (takes about 10 days). They will email us when it comes in. In the meantime we still use our Dyson as is. When it comes in I will return there and they will install. Should cost with labor about $ 115.
